Dude you saved my soul explaining sodium abnormalities and fluid replacements. I've struggled with that for so long, has been so confusing. You made these concepts a lot simpler, I really appreciate it. Also your tone of voice makes me feel less stupid for some reason, so thanks for that too.

If they make me calculate the osmolarity I think I’ll just skip the question 😑 I hate that equation Edit: actually after thinking about it I’ll just think “NaNa + GLUCOSE/18 + BUN/3” and I’ll remember to divide BUN by 3 cause it has 3 letters. So hopefully I’ll just have to remember to divide glucose by 18

for most questions, you can skip the glucose and bun part and simply add 10-15 to NANA because (glucose/18 = 5 to 10 mostly) and (bun/3 = 5 mostly).

anion gap= na-(cl+hco3) {minute 18:22} ??
@DoctorHighYieldMD5 жыл бұрын
Na - Cl - HCO3 can also be expressed as Na - (Cl+HCO3) if you factor it out. But they are both the same. Eg 135 - 95 - 28 = 12 compared to 135 - (95+28) becomes 135 - 123 = 12. Same number. Hope that helps!
@ItsTrulyRachel5 жыл бұрын
Your equation and his equation are the same. Distribute the negative in the equation you stated above and get what he stated. Na - (Cl + HCO3) = Na - Cl - HCO3.

Thank you so much ❤️ Uw says in euvolemic and hypovolemic without symp give hypotonic solutions and just for hypovolemic with symp give normal salin It doesn't say anything about hypervolemic tho 🤔

Hey! Why is it that we use urine sodium to check if the kidney's are functioning properly when assessing hyponatremia but we don't use that to assess their function when checking for alkalosis (where we check the chloride instead)

Love your videos! A little confused- had an SIADH q on uworld with euvolemic hyponatremia (sodium 117) and the answer was to give hypertonic saline. I am guessing this is just because the hyponatremia was so severe (
