Thank you! I’m probably the weakest rifle and in a world class guard, so everyone is obviously pretty good. It’s just really worrying because I have two 6’s in my show (and close to the end when I’m really tired). It’s even worse because the first 6 is an exchange, so I go from my light gun to a really heavy one, leaving my final toss to be under rotated. It’s extremely intimidating because the rifle line I’m on (VERY well known high school world guard, not going to say because I really worry what people think about me so I don’t want to seem like I’m flexing or being cocky) is full of members that can nail tosses such as 7s, 8s, and more, while doing tricks underneath, while I’m struggling to consistently throw my 6s. Getting back to the point, thank you so much. I’m already starting to feel more confident about my tosses.
@SpintronixGuard4 жыл бұрын
That’s wonderful!! Sometimes just taking it back to basics and thinking about the small details, like how you breathe, is what gets you into the groove of improvement. Keep working and we will be watching for you!!

SpintronixGuard Yeah! Just a quick edit: tonight’s practice was awesome! I even overthrew some of my 6s (which was an absolutely awesome accomplishment!!!). Thank you again!!! I’m going to keep practicing in order to keep having great runs, but for now, I’m just very appreciative!!

@David-qj5eo2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I’ve been put in the rifle line yesterday and the first show is in a month. I heard I’m supposed to do a 6 toss? Does the number (6) mean the seconds it’s supposed to be in the air + plus the catch or is it the amount of times it’s supposed to spin before catching it?
@SpintronixGuard2 жыл бұрын
It’s the amount of times it spins before catching! I actually did a video somewhere here about counting rifle tosses that might help you!

zoinks scoobs honestly it sounds like fingerless guard gloves would be the best option for you. Maybe if you get a pair that’s skin tone? I know our insurance requires all of our performers to wear them at all times for protection.

I also have a hard time doing basic tosses such as singles and doubles but the reason why i have a problem is because we have very little time to work on our technique so they cant help me learn basic tosses but next season we are tossing a 5 for our show can you please give me some advice I'm panicking.
@SpintronixGuard7 жыл бұрын
My advice: practice, practice, practice!!! Every single day. Get outside and spin and toss. We used to do 100 tosses per day of each type (100 singles, 100 doubles, 100 triples, and so on all the way up through sixes) as our homework. If you have a hard time doing something, then that's the thing that you need to do. Just get out in the yard or in a gym and get it done! :-)

I dont have a winterguard and because its not good outside weather wise to toss. Im really struggling to toss ( from lack of practice ) and i could toss a before the weather started to change. So 2 questions. 1. Is it usually hard to get a toss out in bad weather?and 2. Any recommendations to ways i could practice during wintertime wether its doing " air rifle " or finding a place to practice????
@SpintronixGuard7 жыл бұрын
+btrfeder it shouldn't be any harder to get rotations in bad weather as good, though the wind might steal your equipment. Your best options for practice are to do your setup in front of a mirror and to find a place to practice with high ceilings!

When I try tossing even something as small as a triple I can't seem to get a good rotation, it's usually really lofty. By the way, is there any way I could practice colorguard without any access to equipment? I really want to work hard and do good next season, but I'm not sure how or what to practice in the meantime before season starts again.

I always spun a broom in the off-season until I could buy my own equipment. :) I would say push more with your right hand and lower your release point with your left hand to bring your Triples down and make them rotate faster.

Does anyone know what count you catch triple, quads, fives, sixes and sevens?
@SpintronixGuard7 жыл бұрын
It depends on how tightly they spin when you toss them. The general rule of thumb is that triples are caught on 4, quads on 4-and, fives on 5, and so on. However, it depends on a number of external factors as well such as the tempo of the music.
@madelynnfoster74314 жыл бұрын
do you have any tips on how to stop yourself from taking your quarter dip into a full dip? if i just do the prep i have no problem doing just the quarter dip but when i record myself actually tossing i always seem to go over to a full dip.
@SpintronixGuard4 жыл бұрын
Madelynn Foster it’s a matter of practicing squeezing your arm muscles at the correct moment to create the lock. It also helps if you have a gap of air under your right palm, then clamp it down onto the butt when you hit the quarter dip point. If I didn’t talk about that in this video then I am pretty sure I mentioned it in an earlier one about tossing triples and quads. Let me know if this helps!!

How many rotations are in each toss?
@SpintronixGuard6 жыл бұрын
You call the toss by the number of rotations. So a single goes around one full time after it leaves your hand, a double goes twice, a six goes six times, and so on.
