Massive respect my neechie, but I am not okay with how U.S. citizens conflate Indig experiences north of the medicine line to that of south of the medicine line. I'm from YXE too, and a law student, and I just ain't okay with how Indig voices from traditional areas of Turtle Island that are now considered parts of colonial "Canada" are continuously misrepresented as from lands now considered parts of the U.S. It is wrong. It's perpetuating misinformation and does not speak to our unique colonial realities. jmo.

And to clarify, I understand we reject colonial borders inherently as an element of our rejection of settler-state supremacy over us, but that does not negate the impact of the Indian Act, the policies enacted against us as a result and also the struggles of Michif people too who are treated inherently differently by colonial-state laws here in Kanada. We have been subjected to a unique experience and we deserve the respect of having that acknowledged as opposed to continuously being called Native Americans and having our perspectives and experiences misappropriated to a colonial state we do not exist in. Solidarity up for Indig peeps on that side of the medicine line, but acknowledge our truths and the colonial legacy we have been governed by. Not this false narrative.

Hey! A reaction to this that I didn’t request lol I love them! So many people don’t know about contemporary Native life and what they continue to go through. They’re mascots or myths or just don’t exist in non-Native peoples world. That’s why I love more people being exposed to these issues and Native culture through music. The great connector. (Even though being a human should be enough to connect us) Boujee Natives is another good one by them. Honestly, all their tracks are good. They have a new track dropping tonight at 11pm! 🖤

@@HigherFaculty she actually sounds ignorant as fuck because none of the artists on this track are "Native Americans." They all are traditionally from, and have resided on, the North side of the medicine line. This means we have been subjected to entirely different colonial laws and policies. If you want to talk about Indigenous experiences as a whole from people of Turtle Island, that's one thing. There are many overlaps, sure. But actually erasing the unique colonial experiences of Indigenous people residing in, and historically tied to, lands currently controlled by the Canadian state and attempting to say they are equivalent to "Native American" experiences is literally disrespecting the sovereign nations these artists are from and the unique colonial abuses they have experienced. Whack.

@@HigherFaculty If you want a proud Cherokee rapper to listen to, react to LiteFoot- ‘Call Me Hostile’ or ‘My Land’. He was the 1st indigenous rapper I ever listened to back in my late teens and enlightened me on the issues the indigenous population has been dealing with for so many years and still go through today. I was never taught this in school, my mind was blown and changed forever

Snotty Nose Rez Kidz....all their music is fire. The 2 rappers are from a First Nation tribe out of Canada. There are quite a few indigenous rappers....singers....etc...SNRK song Boujee Natives is one of those light.. laughing ones. Also Real Deadly. Boujee Natives when lyric about being broke and hope the liquor store is open was a rhetorical line because 1 of the stereo types about natives is achololism. Boujee Natives is in reference to natives that are into art , higher education, etc. You guys should listen n watch it. Real Deadly too. Creator made an animal....need to hear that one as well. Plz check out their music so many of them are good .

It's crazy to me that people really don't know, I learned about all of this from my dad, uncles, aunties, everyone who raised me, we grow up hearing about all the darkest things the government did to us and continues to do. The shit that happened to my dad and his class happened to him in an Indian day school, where they could go home at the end of the day, one day they went into his grade 2 classroom with dentists and asked that class if they wanted to keep their front or back teeth... that moment made me realize why my wonderful kind dad always chewed with his front teeth... this shits still happening yet i am stil Lil'wat7ul.

Lol, when I graduated HS my first job was at a tourist attraction, a tram that goes up into a mountain. I would work the mini theater that would play a 10 minute film about my Tlingit history and how we are fighting to keep our culture alive. And no joke, people would take pictures with me, like I'm some sort of Disney character. The sad thing, the place i worked at also would have some Tlingit elders that would dress up in their traditional regalia and go to the boardwalk (cruise ships) and take pictures and direct attention to the tramway.

I would like to address the comment "I don't even see natives in ohio" that is because we don't all look the same, we speak vastly different languages, and come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The statement is unknowingly reductive because part of our struggle is we do not all look alike. Just pointing out you may not know by looks alone. Yôotva/thank you for your reactions ✌️❤️

Yo, I know this beat, from Hip Hop DX. They use this beat behind their updates. IDK it was from this song!!! And Mama Aiya bringing us some true knowledge about the assimilation schools. I didn't know that was the depth of the cruelty, but I am in no means surprised. It seems like everytime, I think there is a chance of us healing from our pains, I am met with evil all over again. It's painful to hear, people are think Indigenous people are some type of myth, because it just goes to show how real racial and cultural erasure is. So many Native folk live live outside of the Reservation, but no one is aware that the communities are, right here. I think it even speaks to an entitlement, that even other ethnic groups don't even recognize. I like this song, though. I will be looking into this group.

Just recently they found like 315 children's bodies around a former Indian school in Vancouver, British Columbia. Native women go missing, children are STILL taken from their families and reservations are kept in poverty unless they're lucky enough to build a casino. I remember several years ago when I was at an annual Pow Wow. I was in the gas station on the reservation and a lady came in and asked where the Indians are. The cashier was Native, as am I, and from this particular tribe. The cashier said, "well, you're on the reservation, we're pretty much all Indians here." The lady scoffed and said "no, I mean the 'real' Indians. Where are the teepees?" We looked at each other and just kinda grinned.

They do a "census count" every few years to keep track of the native American population growth..census workers will either come to your house, call you, or they'll send you a form in the mail ... Also keep track of our blood quantity .... I always thought a CIB was for everybody ..until i was about 8.. it's crazy ..how much different every tribe is treated . .. but we are one people still .. still here ❤️🤘

It's incredibly frustrating to continuously have Indigenous peoples of Canada's voices be misappropriated as "Native American." This video is not an official video for this song, hence the American pipeline visual elements. We stand in solidarity with Native Americans, but face entirely different colonial laws and the disparities we face are worse than any other population within "Kanada." There are many overlaps between what has occurred to Indigenous populations across the medicine line (in the U.S. vs the side of the medicine line we reside on) but stop disrespecting the Indigenous people on the north side of the medicine line, who have distinctly different experiences due to colonial government policies. Stop stealing our voices to perpetuate United States supremacy. Massively disappointing that an Indig womxn couldn't even bother to properly research the Indigenous nations these artists were from and where they are traditionally located on Turtle Island. Sincerely, an Indig woman whose homeland is north of the medicine line.
