Why is this series not on TV. Tweedy, you are a natural presenter with such an engaging personality. Keep it up. 👏👏👍😀🍺

Thanks for the kind words Andrew! Lots of reasons why this isn't on TV (not least the production quality, I'm very much an amateur at this!) but also, alas, I suspect the TV companies would want to replace the presenter because I don't have the right sort of face for TV today. It's great that we have KZbin to fill in those gaps!

@@TweedyPubs Best pub-program on radio then? 😂 You do have a pleasant voice to listen to. I have to admit I listen to loads of YT videos in minimized windows as I do other things. (But what do I know, I like hipster-IPAs haha) Cheers for the video!

if you're nice to the people at The Flask they'll take you down to see the 17th century beer cellar. I'm an American but somehow I passed the test.

The Woodman, just on top of Highgate Tube. That's if it's still there don't know how you missed it, or perhaps it wasn't worth a mention. Went there often as I lived in Muswell Hill .

Some nice looking pub interiors in this one - I particularly liked The Winchester with that screened office area. It did make me think of the film, Shaun of the Dead - didn’t they retreat to “The Winchester” to escape the zombies?! The Wrestlers looked appealing too. If I ever go to Highgate, I know where to get a drink!

Yes it was the Winchester! A quick Google suggests the filming location was a pub called the Duke of Albany in New Cross, sadly converted into luxury flats in 2008. So often the way. There is a lot of gastropubbified blandness in Highgate, but I'm reasonably confident, at least in terms of interiors / historic interest, the pubs presented here are probably the best of the lot.

Always fancied going to the The Wrestlers but it seems to keep odd hours during the week, looks good though. Am at the point in my pub adventures that I'm no longer surprised that dick Turpin keeps appearing up, he was quite prominent even in my area of colnbrook "the ostrich inn" (near Heathrow airport) he certainly got around😂

Yes there are a few characters like that who seem to keep popping up aren't there? Dylan Thomas is another that springs to mind.

Don't take my word for it! Most people I know in the area around Highgate just pronounce it the natural way you'd expect, but then I hardly know anyone in London who is originally from London either...

I did look it up on the web first, I recall a few years back it was more pubby, but the recent pictures looked very modernised / gastropubby to me. Probably I should have actually gone inside and decided for myself!

There are some good areas around North London with a number of intriguing pubs, High Barnet is probably at the top of the list as it has several historic pubs of interest, The Ye Olde Mitre is a former coaching inn dating back to c.1533, and is boasts a unique step down layout, the Black Horse used to be a brewpub, whilst The Sebright Arms and The Lord Nelson are classic examples of neighbourhood community pubs.

I originally came to London from Liverpool in 1981 to complete a training course in carpentry and joinery , eventually residing in North end road approximately 100 yards from The old bull and bush . I fell in love with Hampstead and the surrounding areas and continued to live there up into the early nighties . Now a father of two young adult children , I have been visiting along with my family , on a regular basis ( three times a year ) since they were babies and consider London my second home . I can’t explain my excitement on arrival at Euston station and inbetween my visits , I like to watch wonderful videos like yours . I’ll be sitting in The flasks ( respectively ) over the Christmas and should we cross paths , I would love to buy you a pint of your most informed choice …

I have visited a couple of times, but haven't made a video. It is a very unusual place, but I think somebody else might be better suited than me to make a video on a location / theme like that.

Surprisingly, I have never visited a single pub in Highgate, I must have always been there before opening time. I like all the pubs, and admire the stunning restorations, but perhaps The Flask would be my first choice for its rabbit warren-ness. I have fond memories of drinking Fuller's Red Fox in The Dove on Chiswick Mall (Cue for a Tweedy tour of that area perhaps).

If I were advising a visitor to London on good areas for historic pubs I think Highgate probably wouldn't be at the top of the list. I live practically within walking distance and even I rarely go to Highgate for pubs. However I do think at least a couple of the pubs here are worth a visit if you already happened to be in the area. Yes I am a fan of the Dove in Hammersmith and years ago ventured out for pub crawls in that part of town... I had recently considered revisiting that area for one of these videos but am slightly struggling to think of other pubs around there that were particularly memorable! Perhaps a little research required to refresh my memory.

Tweedy. If you start at Turnham Green Station, No 1 The Tabard (designed by no less than Norman Shaw), 2. The Old Pack Horse High Rd Chiswick, 3. George IV High Rd Chiswick, 4. The Cross Keys, Black Lion Lane, 5. The George and Devonshire near the Brewery, and finally 6. The Dove on Chiswick Mall. Happy drinking! @@TweedyPubs

Have considered going to Fullers Brewery open day? Not well advertised but usually the first Saturday in September. Its free-ish. They usually ask for a small fee for the brewery tour. When i went some years ago it was five pounds. The museum and such were free. The brewet is fascinating with robots and elegant Victorian mash tubs side by side. Lots of kids exited by horse drawn rides.

Thanks yes I have occasionally pondered that - if I recall correctly isn't one of Hogarth's houses also nearby (now a museum or something?) so that would make a good combined day out!

The Winchester is indeed nice, except that the whole effect is completely ruined by that incessant muzak, which is designed, knowingly or not, to drive clientele out of the premises as quickly as possible. The noise surrounding you as you comented was unbearable. The same applies to the next pub, The Crown. Then we have The Wrestlers, mercifully muzak-free, I thought, and looking the most interesting and civilised of the three, and with deffo the best selection of beers. But I caught the cursed muzak assailing my ears towards the end of your time in there. Perhaps on lower volume than the previous two. Lastly The Flask, which is evidently too classy for muzak, thank goodness.
