Once jetted correctly, they work awesome. It will add a lot of power up top and extend the rev range. You will have to forget everything you know about jetting a normal carb and re-learn if for the Stick. For example on a Stick, all the jets contribute everywhere across the the throttle range. Another example, is in the pilots....a 48 pilot will run richer than a 50 which will be richer than a 52. Anyway...it take some time to learn it, but once you have it figured out, it's awesome.

I installed the new Super x carb on my 23 yz125x as my dialled in keihin was not great, and I was looking for more power for single track and the occasional track day. Out of the box was a step up from my keihin in every throttle position. It showed me what I was missing out on! Hearing about the high power tune and after some advice, I installed the high power tune 80 pilot, 200 main and 100 air correction jet. Wow, it's like a 150 now! Runs clean and crisp in slow technical single track to mx tracks. At only 1/4 throttle, it is almost as powerful as the original keihin at full! It's now very responsive, smooth, but very strong from the first crack of the throttle to wide open. Ranging in conditions from 18-38*c and 500-2500ft riding conditions, I have not even needed to tweak the airscrew or change a jet. My goal was to achieve a set and forget setup regardless of environmental conditions or terrain ridden, and the X has done that.

In 2018 a lot of the Mikunis had a crimp in the jet block gasket and that’s what made them so finicky. JD makes a kit (JDMK05) to replace that gasket and then the Mikuni turns into a real nice carburetor. I pulled off my Keihin/STIC because it gave me a bunch of pipe bang on deceleration which I can’t stand. I’ve been real happy with the Mikuni and a JD jetting kit (‘18 300 XCW).

Hey Morgan! Another awesome and very informative video. We have talked a couple times over the phone about my YZ125X here in Virginia. I had fantastic success with the STIC Metering Block. I moved up to the all new STIC Super X cast carb. It's up another level. It's a clean clone of the PWK AS, both Short body and Screw Top available. Ran perfect 'as delivered' on my KTM 200SX. I changed the pilot jet from a 50 to an 80! Still had steady low idle. But this thing has me dicing with bigger bikes and clearing jumps right out of turns easier now. Pure magic for smaller bore low to mid and now it carries over to exceptional mid to top. After returning my first flawed tube/block from a bad production run. The STIC has been a quick tune for me and the new carb was great out of the box. The X carb has more tuning features than the block set up. The ppl I ride with saw me slicing and dicing my nearly 20 yo 200 with the young bucks on new 4t bikes. Won't say it's as powerful as a 250 smoker, but it is stronger and so quick through the powerband.

Thanks Morgan. I was using the 38 stic in my 2018 TE250. Thought it ran better than the original lectron once you set it up right. However I just installed the same carb in my 2022 YZ125X, and it runs really good. In fact I had the Mikuni running really good, but the stic is better. I feel it is much better in the 125, do not know why. You should compare on your 125, see if it is the case for you. I ride pretty much the same elevation as you here in Albuquerque desert. Only issue I have, is a lean bog when I lay the bike down in the turns. Not as bad as I was getting on the mikuni, need to adjust the float.

If you have a Keihin pwk carb 36mm or 38mm all you need is a NECJ needle(Suzuki rm250) and play with the jets, for me that needle made my bike (ktm sx 250 2008) totally different snappy yet very controlled roll on power and more over rev, my set up is NECJ needle 3rd clip position 170 main and 40 pilot, the jest will be different from bike to bike you will have to do some tests but after that your bike will be dialed !!!!

I think curiosity would've got me to push the original emulsion tube out and see what I was getting for my money. Looks like it would be easy to make it the same as the Stic, if you have engineering skills. For all we know, the emulsion tube is the same
@highlandcycles2 жыл бұрын
It’s not. I can tell by looking in there with a light that it has a lot less emulsion holes. Also, I’m not 100% sure you can push it out without ruining it or the jet block because of the way it’s staked in there. I might push this one out of the owner of the carb doesn’t care if I break it just to see but there are definitely some pretty big differences. That said, I love my stock jet block on my kehins.

Morgan, I have run a STIC on my 300 for 2+ years. Float height adjustment is critical. 7mm is the sweet spot. The air screw is backwards, it gets richer as you go further out because the pilot circuit is active at all throttle openings. So opening the air screw allows more air and thus fuel, from pilot circuit to leave the carb at all throttle positions. The standard air screw setting for a 300 is 3.5 turns out. It should have a much longer air screw spring that allows up to 5 turns turns out before there is no tension anymore. Give it a try on your 125, set the air screw per JDs recommendation if you have the sheet that came with jetting kit. The overev on a 125 is supposed to be ridiculous, lots of fun. Also, the carb you have is tapered bore 38 to 40mm. STIC does that in house. I prefer a straight 38 bore with my STIC. Looking forward to your thoughts on how it runs. It gets mixed reviews for a reason, but when it's setup right for the bike, it's definitely more fun that stock Keihin block, gives the 300 a lot more over rev, longer legs.

@rob.granger3 жыл бұрын
It is crazy how some carbs work and some don't. I tried a SmartCarb on my 2018 TX300, it would run lean and ping, wicking the throttle it would bog and die, rolling on it sputtered popped and pinged. I would put the Mikhuni back on and run fine, pull reset all the stuff on the SC and same bog, pop, bog, ping. Fiddled with it for 4-6 weeks and sent it back. I guess my bike was just happy with the Mikhuni (after the slide mod, JD red needle, and ...something else).

Sounds like you needed a slide with a smaller cutaway. A lot of people give with a carb, thinking that it can't be jetted right, when, in fact, it's the cutaway. Bigger for leaner, smaller for richer

@@jfuqua72 and whoever. Part of the STIC value as a stand alone item is that it makes much better increases when compared to head mods, pipe, silencer and CDI mapping. These mods are fine tuning. Think in terms of an expensive, perfectly executed ported big-bore build. The critical thing is the tuning. When someone says that it has better mid to top. That's when you know they missed the target. The biggest gains are between off-idle and mid-range. Oh, and the vapor mixture allows pump gas with race comp head specs.

My guess is the cuts in the STIC and the holes in the Keihin are to release trapped air in an effort to provide a smoother flow of fuel.
