I like the diesel solution. 2 Kw sounds about right for that space. I have a zero-degree mummy bag and it's usually along, but I like having extra bedding, like comforters and a pile of unzipped sleeping bags.

Very nice setup, I like the tunnel shape and no floor. The bad reviews on Amazon all say they could not figure out how to set it up. After watching a guy set his up on KZbin it is not that difficult. He shows the do's and don'ts. You should do a preliminary set up in your driveway first anyway. I am for sure buying the Kodiak Canvas Tent. Thanks for your review well done.

someone did a drive test with the kodiak still up to see if you could move around the mountains without taking it down. It holds up to like 50MPH. crazy. its easy to set up. it works great and has great headroom. I bring a few foam mattresses and sleep 2 easy with canvas zero degree bags. Comfy. great hunting setup.

MINE WITHSTOOD 50 mph winds in WY +curt Goudy)..stationary...I drove 20..mounted ...last year...so why not ? From zone to Zone? Problem? KTM Dirt bike LOL.. solution? get rear Skid Mount tail hitch carrier. versa Hual. MOTO Tote etc. So happy....

As a recent owner of a new 2023 Tacoma SR5 with 6' bed, I've vasilated between purchasing another truck tent like I had on my 8' bed 2008 Tundra or getting a Softopper...even considered keeping the well designed lockable tonneau folded back with the truck tent. Whereas my former tent was a Napier with sewn in floor, I rather like the ability to keep the bed organized as I like and simply set up the tent over it. I noticed that Rightline bed tents also come without the floor, but with nearly $400 in Cabela Bucks, I'm inclined to purchase the Kodiak canvas tent. I also love the idea of total flexibility since I plan on hauling a small Honda trail bike or scooter in the bed when traveling and a hard topper would prevent that. Thanks fof the inspiration to move forward with my decision to have both a tent and foldable cap. I'll keep the tonneau for times I need more security locally in the truck bed.

Dang that is the setup right there and such a good budget option compared most overland builds. Plus your truck is still useful as a truck!

Agreed. Its an excellent setup for someone who does the occasional overland trips. Permenant modifications such as campers wear down the every day use vehicle and sometimes impede on the usefulness of a truck. I dont know what the usage threshold is to justify a camper type build, but i'd have to think more than a couple trips a month.

@@highlife342 I had a really nice canopy that came with my old Toyota. It was a nice, streamlined Leer, and I figured it was pretty light and aerodynamic, but that truck was overjoyed when I took off the canopy. This is a lot roomier than a canopy, and you can use your truck as a truck.

Love this setup, I have the same Softopper and the Decked Draw System for my Ram and I was thinking about trying the Softopper Tent but I like the extra head room with the Kodiak Truck Tent.

Agreed with the extra head room with the Kodiak - it allows for some great ventilation when hot and roomy shelter when it's time to retreat from bad weather.

Hey I have a 9 x 8 kodiak canvas tent already. I have been looking at these tents for my 21 Toyota tacoma TRD off road. I just saw a softtopper and wondered how you like it and what it costs? What kind of diesel heater do you have? I have never used a diesel heater as I use the buddy heater in my tent normally only to get ready for bed and to take the cool off in the morning. Is there any problem ventilating or is that basically the same as with the buddy heater? Comments appreciated. I also saw a video that days they changed the new truck tents to resting on top of the bed tailgate. I know my truck takes the midsized truck I believe. Did you have any problems using the c clamps for the railing? The one video I watched the Man had to use bigger clamps. I have an inside the bed tie down rail with a moveable track. Will that I present a problem for the rail system?. Thanks Dee Dee

The soft topper is awesome. It is durable and light weight, folds up quickly for use of the truckbed or tent. I put some weather stripping around the tailgate and it is pretty dust free even in the harshest off roading. Cost? Visit the website and see what the price is. I have a 2kw heater, and it is a totally safe and dry heat that will run all night long, typically warming my tent 30 degrees more than ambient outside. You are correct - midsize truck tent...and that also fits a 6 foot bed, midsize. Bigger C clamps are a must with the rail system, but the small ones work if you plan on using the Kodiak tent rail attached next to (vs on top of) the soft topper rails.

It is not recommended to do that. Moving within a camp area will be fine, but on the city streets would not be a good idea.

I have a cover on truck bed that collapses flat to the front of my truck. I really want to know if I could use this.

highly likely you can use this. There are 2 C claps each side that hold it to the bed. As long as you can use a C clamp on the edge of the bed, you should be good to go

Its a Rimdoc 2kw from amazon. It comes with all the parts but you must design a case for it. Building a case was a fun project, but for almost the same price there are complete kits with a case (usually vertical stance). If I had to do it again, I'd probably go that route. The 10L tank it comes with is an awkward shape (think rotopack) so I bought a more rectangle style tank that was smaller and suited my needs.

Looking at this for a Ridgeline. How is it for mosquitos getting in between the truck and the tent fabric? Id try to block the holes by the tailgate but im wondering about them coming up at the front by the cab. I too want this with a soft topper (leaning towards buying the Fas-topper).

There is alot of fabric that pulls down between the cab and truckbed - all with sinch straps. Its a good seal, so bugs don't get in.

I think it could work. The straps allow alot of adjusting and the support rails are not very long.

I belive so. The tent rails are only about 3.5 feet long and can be C clamped to the outside of the bed cover rails

What model tent is it? Just curious cause when I looked these tents up, I think it said the 3rd gen taco needed the model 7211

How do you get the rail clamped to your bed rails? I have one and when I go to clamp the rail, it tilts toward the bed and the clamps eventually slide off. Any pointers on how to secure the rail to the truck bed?

I clamp the tent rails to the outer edge of the soft topper rails. There shouldn't be more than a little pressure from the poles if it's aligned correctly. Also the large baseplate of the tent rail should be flat on the truckbed (tent rail sitting on same surface as topper rail, not stacked on each other.)

Also, in the video i have it set up overlapping with vertical C clamps. This was the first try... but what works best is to lay the rails side by side and c clamp in a horizontal position.
