A first look at an entirely new branch of German Battleships, or Battlecruisers would be more accurate. I remember thinking KM ships are among the best looking in the game, these recent KM lines are doing their best to change my mind.

Well, the Germans made their WW1 battlecruisers like a bit less armed and armored battleships, so it makes some sense. British on the other hand just took battleship guns and slapped it on almost unarmored hull.

@@bilku7017 Thats not really correct you should watch Drachinifels vid on battlecruisers, where he explains it really well. Only the first british battlecruisers were poorly armored, the later coming models like the Lions, Reknowns and Hood had quite good armor. The german WW1 420mm gun was designed as a low velocity gun, I'm kinda worried that the T10 will feel like an oversized Yorck.

@@stevenmoore4612 It also had to do with the crews completely throwing safety procedures out of the window by leaving every hatch and door between the turrets and the magazine open to facilitate faster shell loading. One bad hit was all it took for an explosion in the turret to reach the magazines and boom. The short reason why is because the Battlecruisers relocated south from Scapa Flow to stop German coastal raids (Part of the German plan to lure the BCs out), and they couldn't perform gunnery training like they could in Scapa Flow, so to make up for their worse accuracy they just decided to spray and pray.

Some guys already worked out the history, as far as it goes, in the forums: tiers 3 to 5 obviously existed (and fought at Jutland), tier 6 is the lead ship of the same class as Prinz Eitel Friedrich (both had their construction started). Tier 7 is probably Ersatz Yorck class with WG modernisation (e.g. Atlantic bow), and had her construction started as well. Tier 8 is most likely design GK4532 with 3x2 420 mm guns and an absolutely hideous superstructure invented by WG. Tiers 9 and 10 are probably GK4541 and GK5041, respectively, with 4x2 420 mm guns and not-quite-so-ugly-but-still-not-great WG superstructure. PS: Zieten looks like a Lyon that has melted and then someone took a dump on it.

Ersatz Yorck was a BC who did have 4x2 35cm armed ship, a enlarge Derfflinger, so it shall look very sleek and have 2 turrets forward. Regardless if it was "modernized" with a giantic superstructure that will drawf a japanes pagoda mast.

Oh yeah the battlecruisers are finally here! I’m excited about the real ones from tier III-VI that actually existed in the imperial German navy. Technically the Tier VII isn’t entirely bullshit because I think she is actually based on the planned Erstaz Yorck class that were the last planned BC’s by the imperial German navy after the mackensen class to compete with the British admiral class. @@RedXlV thanks for posting the link, I hope it was clear that I was aware of these studies. Looking at the respective drawings and the WG ships in question highlights the absurd amount of liberty that was taken with these. For example, the twin casemate guns don't show up in the drawings (and quick maths™ makes it clear that both the turret and casemate mounted 15cm guns are indeed single mounts). The only torpedo armament is a single bow mounted submerged tube on each of these studies. Due to the age of the studies, the ships are obvious "what if these ships were built and survived the Versailles treaty" designs with hypothetical retrofits applied. I have no idea who thought that such retrofits would involve making casemate mounts twin mounts, that horrendous tier 8 superstructure or multiple deck mounted torpedo launchers. Imo these are a low within the genre of fictional post WW1 retrofits thought up by WG. I hope that thanks to said WG refits the Tier 10 will be more of an upgrade over the tier 9 than the 5041 over the 4541, which was basically turning the turret mounted secondary 15cm guns into 15cm AA guns, becoming 30 meters longer and .5 - 2 knots faster with identical armour

Looking at the pictures the t8 ( and 9/10 to a lesser extent) are MUCH smaller than the t7, like half the size at best, but the guns and superstructure are similar in total size. If it follows the usual pattern than she will have equal or larger guns than the tier below so that gives a hint at the scale. Beyond that the lighting does not do the ship any favors in looking like something other than a bad photoshop job.

Proper BC line :O The tier 3 through 6 are real ships, The tier 7 seems to be a reconstruction of the planned successor to the Mackensen class, the Ersazt Yorck class. Tier 9 and 10 look like fictional designs based on taking existing large cruiser projects and increasing their size/adding some more Battleship features. Like what they did with Hindenburg. Tier 8 is incredibly ugly and is the laziest one here. It’s like they just took a Nurnberg, gave it the Spee Tower, widened it a but and slapped some Bayern guns and secondaries on it. But over all this is a pretty solid tech tree line. Edit: Turns out the tier 10 actually is based on designs from the late 1910s, Who would’ve thought 🤔

If anybody's wondering about why some ships have torpedo nets and some don't (as shown on Moltke and Derfflinger here), they were on most British and German capital ships prior to 1914, but were removed during the war. I think they were vulnerable to damage in heavy seas. They would only be deployed when the ship was stationary/anchored.

IDK nothing makes sense in this game. The Scharnhorst is what really blows stumps me. The German 11in guns on it where considered high velocity at the time with the emphasis on long rang accuracy. The ship has the longest range navel gun hit on a moving target in history and war gaming treats its salvos like a shot gun spread. That ship was a German sniper rifle. Even the Captain of the HMS King George said that they only won the engagement because of the storm. If the Scharnhorst had been in fair seas it’s gunnery could have decimated the their super structure forcing them to withdraw very similarly to how the Bismarck made price of whales withdraw with a few salvos of 15in

Here's what the armament of these ships are: * T3: Von der Tann: 4x2 283mm * T4: Moltke: 5x2 283mm * T5: Derfflinger: 4x2 305mm * T6: Mackensen: 4x2 350mm * T7: Prinz Heinrich: 4x2 380mm, 2x3 533mm torps * T8: Zieten: 3x2 406mm, 2x3 533mm torps * T9: Prinz Rupprecht: 4x2 406mm, 4x3 533mm torps * T10: Schlieffen: 4x2 420mm, 4x4 533mm torps No word yet on the stats beyond that. But the World of Warships devstream earlier today said these are the calibers for the Tier 8-10. And if Incomparable goes by the real-life design, it'll have 280mm belt armor and 35 knot top speed. 280mm is really bad for a Tier 10 BB, needless to say. As for how well the turrets will shield the superstructure when you're bow-in? That seems to be up to Wargaming to decide. The info available for the design says 356mm barbettes, but nothing about the turret armor. Based on how turret fronts are usually a few inches thicker than barbettes, I'd guess 406mm or better turret front is likely.

Yep, Gneisenau should be the T8 in this line, since it was literally a follow-on to the Erzatz Yorck design. Somewhat ironically one of the Erzatz Yorck's was Erzatz Gneisenau (ie ordered as the replacement for the destroyed SMS Gneisenau)

I think the T7 is the historical Ersatz Yorck class - the first ship was laid down during WWI but very little progress was made on her. The T8 is the GK 4531 design with a hideous Admiral Graf Spee style superstructure grafted on. She should have six 420mm guns. I think the T9 and T10 are modernised takes on the L20e a and L24e a designs, which were designs for fast battleships the Imperial German Navy wanted to build once the Erstaz Yorcks and Badens were completed, but never got much beyond preliminary design work. If so, the T3-T5 were built, T6-7 were laid down and T8-T10 are at least recognisable as relatively well known Imperial German navy design studies. There are battleship lines that are a lot worse (cough-soviet BBs-cough).

@Flamu The fact that the tier III - VI are actual designs either built or actually with surviving blueprints. Tier VII is a nominally modernized Ersatz Yorck battlecruiser (which would have been the nominal successor to the Mackensens). Tier VIII+ are basically WG pulling stuff out of "sekret dokuments", comrade. I think we can clearly see where they stopped with reality and just put whatever together to make a line.

Personally I think the "New" German BB's are actually Battle Cruisers like Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, and Graff but since they already stuck them in BB (except the Graff) they decided to put them into BB tree. Mostly cuz they have not very long range on their main rifles and many secondaries and torps. (And basically if a Game's developer says "It'll NEVER happen" count on it happening sometime down the road at some time and when they say "We'll see" it's never gonna happen.)

Unique facts of German battlecruisers - Tier III Von der Tann had a small superstructure like we found in Russian Tier IV Gangut, Nikolai, Tier V Okt. Revolutsiya, and Tier VI Izmail - Tier IV Moltke has a lot of main guns, even more numerous than Tier V-X German battlecruisers. Because it has 10 turrets in 5 main guns - Tier V Derfflinger is the last battlecruisers of Imperial German Navy, because Mackensen class battlecruiser (maybe) never build (if me not wrong) - Tier VI Mackensen is actually Prinz Eitel Friedrich but not a premium ships - Tier VII Prinz Heinrich based on Ersatz Yorck-class battlecruisers - Tier VIII Zieten looks like Dutch cruiser Tier V Celebes and labelled as the worst-looking German ships, and of course has fewer main guns than other German battlecruisers, 6 turrets in 3 main guns - Tier IX Prinz Rupprecht and Tier X Schlieffen had total four torpedo tubes, two in left side and two more in right side. And both of these ships is the first Tier IX and X ships to have an old layout casemate secondary guns

The tier 7 is also real, they were going to build her and she's basically a slightly different PEF with bigger guns but lower speed. And folks think that the guns on the 8, 9 and 10 are 16.5-inch guns, which is why the turrets are so massive

Prinz Heinrich is based on Ersatz York, which was the follow-on design for Mackensen (L 20e a was a follow-on Bayern). As for Zieten and Prinz Rupprecht, I think Zieten is based on either GK 4531 or GK 4532 designs, and Prinz Rupprecht I think seems to be based on either the GK 4541 or GK 4542 designs.

Historically von der Tann Had 28cm guns as well as Moltke and the Derflinger had 30.5cm guns. Mackensen would have had 35cm guns. T7 ship ist actually the plans for the so called Ersatz Yorck Class, which should have competed with the Britisch AdmiralClass(Hood) and the battle cruisers of the Repulse Class, so they have 38cm guns. T8-10 is completely made up but if we look at the relatively low caliber I think that they my have also an average or below average caliber bc they don't break that hard the line. I'd love to know where the strength of these ships will be

VI was launched but never finished fitting out, VII was under construction at the end of WW2 (Erzatz Yorck class). There's good reason why 8+ all look weird, as they're based on design studies which just had gun layouts and general configuration data, no actual ship design

As an Author and Historian on German Plan Z ships and ww1 and ww2 German ship designs in general I can tell you that German would have not been designing ships like this in 1944 and or considering building ship designs such as this. H class Battleships, and O Class Battlecruisers would have been being built if they would have had the money, time and manpower. This would be more realistic if they hadn't participated in either World War, and they upgraded WW1 ships like this. Such as happened to the American Battleships like Nevada, West Virginia and the Tennessee's.

T7 is also historical (there was even 1 hull floated under construction at the end of the war)- it is the Ersatz (replacement) Yorck-Class, designed as answer against HMS Renown and HMS Repulse and pretty comparable to HMS Hood, except her shitty free board armour. It was the succcessor of the Mackensen-Class, designed around the same hull with Bayern-class´ armament and only one funnel.
