Highlight the Bible With Me | Matthew

Do you want to highlight the Bible with me? Or maybe just hang out and see how I do it? In this video I'll be highlighting Matthew 6:19-34. Bible highlighting is a great bible study method for beginners but it can also be a little scary to commit to a highlighting system. So I've dedicated this short 3 part series to show how to highlight the Bible. By highlighting your Bible you will begin to read and understand the Bible on a deeper level. While I don't use a system exactly as far as highlights go, I do have one that I pay attention to when I'm really focused on what I'm reading. It's Tim Keller's method: List what the word says about God/Christ/HS; list what it says about me; examples to avoid/follow; commands to obey; promises to claim. I liked that so much, along with his meditation steps, that I typed those up on labels and put that at the beginning of my most-used Bibles. If I add in Diana's idea about foreshadowing Jesus, I think I'm out of highlighter color options - at least in the standard colors!😆

That's basically what I'm looking for too with my highlighters. I do admit I've added in a couple of other colors in the last month or so. I've been wanting to highlight verses that I'm praying and also worshipful verses that make me want to worship. And I just did a study in Esther where I basically made up my own code just for that book. Now that's an idea for a new video I think 😃 Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate you watching.

I started colour coding in the beginning. After a few minutes of doing this, it all went downhill from there. I now just highlight any verse that stands out to me. I write down a summary of the chapter in a notebook as it helps me to remember things the next time l go back and read what that chapter was about. Sticky notes are a must! Great video.👍👍If your Bible is to small, then highlight a verse or passage that stands out to you. Write things down to help you remember.

Hi, Nancy! I’m a new subscriber and I really love and appreciate your videos and how you break down scriptures and mark them. I’ve been studying for many, many years, and while my highlights differ slightly from yours - they are very similar. I highlight verses that are imperatives (commandments), verses showing the Sovereignty of God, verses that foreshadow Jesus (OT), and book theme verses. I also use marks and symbols identifying repeating or important words and phrases, as well as underlining. I’ve used one Bible for all my study over 20 or so years and it is full of notes, highlights, markings, and references… every time I open it it feels like I’m opening a treasure chest! I totally get your analytical approach and gain so much from your teaching! I’m looking forward to more of your study and techniques videos! Thank you!!! 😊

Thanks for sharing! I feel the same way - my time in the Word is evident on the pages and in my journals. It's become a treasure trove to me and I'm blessed when I take time to read through my notes again. God reveals so much more to me when I actively engage in His Word.

What do you mean when you say identity in Christ? I understand all the others but the identity one I am not entirely sure about. Thank you in advance.

When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior we become born-again which means we have a new identity and God views us differently than before we were born-again. So when I'm looking for identity statements to highlight I'm trying to find those things God now thinks and says about me so I can view myself rightly like what I highlighted in verse 26. Identity as a born-again Christian is extremely important to grasp because its one of the things that helps to renew our minds so we can become untethered from this world's opinion of us.
