When black athletes started being recruited by PWI's was the downfall of HBCU's. If all PWI's start having majorettes will more black women choose them over HBCU's? Many attend HBCU's because of the difference in culture.

As long as you allow all dancers to tryout and you don’t discriminate then why not? We can all appreciate eachothers cultures and history and learn together and that would be a beautiful thing. This is in our backyard and my daughter is one of only two white girls on a predominantly black cheer squad and she is 100% embraced and loves her team. When we all work together, the end result is really awesome.

This is great, but I bet USC will showcase it as how “diverse” their institution is while also not providing funding support or inviting them to dance on the field. I graduated from USC and worked as an adjunct prof there. Reputation and image is everything, at the cost of scandals and crime with the football team, medical staff, deans, etc.

@@Applejuice9694 What are you that clueless ... it was taught by teachers who went to HBCS's / PWI's / community colleges / professional dancers who the white community would not allow them to play a major role in their dance organization. Parents who could afford to send their children to dance classes because many of the HS didn't have a dance instructor. Some of the early years in the HBCU was like every other majorette dance team. It wasn't until the women who attended special schools of arts they brought it to HBCU's and HS mainly because PWI thought that type of dancing was not appropriate. There have been generations of black women who attended school of the arts shared their gift with black girls and boys and here is why. they didn't want them to go through the struggle they had to just to get noticed especially if they had gone to a PWI who constantly pushed them to the back no matter how gifted they were. @andrewiskb24, apart from whether Black people and/or non-Black people like the idea of USC, a predominately White institution (PWI), having a group of dancers who strive to perform like HBCU majorettes [without a marching band that performs the same kind of music and has the same type of styles that HBCU bands are known for], is the fact that this USC majorette group isn't an auxiliary of the USC band. At historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) majorettes are an officially recognized auxiliary of the university's marching band. As such, the majorette group dances in front of the band during parades and dances (struts) in front of the band into and out of the arena for football games. When the football game is being played, as an officially recognized auxiliary of the university's marching band, the majorettes perform in the stands in front of the band and perform in the field with the band during half time. None of this is the case for this USC majorette group. That's why in the video members of that group said that they hope that their group will be invited to perform (with the marching band) in the field (during half time).

“HBCU Culture?” “Originated at HBCU’s” in the 60’s?” - Not hardly. HBCU’s did not invent this form of dancing. Does this have anything to do with being black? The report didn't really make that clear....? PWI? JFC! ... As long as we're making it all about race.... I feel bad for them.... Their so oppressed... If only they were allowed to be "black" at a PWI and express their 'blackness'.... err ...But wait.... 🤔 ... Their students at USC and promoted and celebrated as a "black'" dance troupe... sooo what more do they want? Apparently to be featured on the field with the band as a "black" group... Ehhh Ok (cuz only black people can move that way?)... Got it ... Would love to see how a promoted 'white' dance troupe celebrating their 'whiteness' would be reported by the media... The current landscape we live in is just.... 😬.... Someone protect me... I need a safe space... 😭 😢 Perhaps they could have just tried our for the cheerleading squad and brought their moves there?.... Nahh... Put together a racial identity dance troupe... Buy some sexy revealing outfits.... Do some simple (out of sync) choreography in the stands filming yourself... Then post to youtube is clearly the move... then just call up the simp local media station, play the victim card and boom... clearly the winning play! It's all about who can shout about being the biggest victim to get that Internet clout! Nicely played..... Nicely played.... They'll be on the field next week. Guaranteed! ... Then they can all spread their message about how the man is "oppressing" them.

You wrote an entire dissertation about something you have no familiarity with. It would help if you did some research on the matter before you went full blast spouting your flawed conspiracy theories regarding black culture. The dance style originates from Southern Bands specifically those at HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities - that were created because Blacks couldn't attend traditionally white colleges and universities). I don't go to USC but I've gone to a PWI and for non-white students there usually isn't a lot of representation for other students culturally in bands.
