First 'highlight' being a scrum penalty followed by the second being another scrum penalty says it all about the quality of this match. On another note I thought the no-arms attempted tackle by Ben Donaldson just before half time warranted closer scrutiny.

Anybody else wonder how Ben Donaldson doesn't get penalised for a shoulder charge during the disallowed try? No attempt to wrap, totally out of control, should have been at least a penalty if not a card in my view

He got owned in that clash and his upper arm brushed the chest of the ball carrier, who had already put a foot in touch. How do we go from "cards ruin games" to everyone wanting every opposition player to be carded for crap?

@@Karma-qt4ji i agree but there is a jarring inconsistency with test rugby. I worry NZ is training our players to play hard and other countries train their players to play for cards and win games.

There was a Chiefs winger yellow carded in the match against the Waratahs this weekend, where that tackle in any other major competition around the world would have resulted in a red card. It is not a case of you training them to play hard and other countries training their players to play for cards, it is a case of you NOT training them to tackle legally. This is followed by a public outcry from fans, media and pundits alike when the rest of the world are confused about why you are complaining. New Zealand lead a number of the statistics columns at the RWC, but one of those was being the team with the worst discipline. It is not helped when shows like the Breakdown compare Sam Cane's red card to Siya Kolisi's yellow as though the two tackles were even remotely similar, or have Goldie going on a rant, adamant that Scot Barrett should not have been yellow carded for diving shoulder first onto a player prone on the ground. We all have our fair share of these ridiculous pundits, media outlets, KZbinrs so I say this by way of example only. Watch a bit of URC, Top 14, EPCR, Premiership, Currie Cup, and see how the rest of the world are adapting to the application of the laws. So why can't you guys? This is not going to go away.

@@Karma-qt4ji I've never been in the "cards ruin games" crowd. To me it's fairly obvious that Donaldson leads with his shoulder. It's irrelevant whether he won the collision or not, the question is whether it's a legal tackle. If that was done in open play during a test match he would have been penalised more often than not

@@petergeddes6652 while I agree that the tackle was not legal, if we start reducing no-impact, passive tackles to penalties and cards, overturning team infringements (in this case a foot in touch) in the process, then there is nothing left for us to watch. We would have sevens rugby with the other eight players taking turns in the sin bin.

"clearly tackled"? For a tackle to occur, the ball carrier needs to be "held and brought to ground". That defintely did not happen. Ball carrier went to ground with not a soul holding onto him.

Super Rugby is a terrible product. Boring, over-officiated games that nobody cares about. The NRL is on fire right now...and I've been a diehard rugby fan my whole life. Rugby has been losing my interest fast over the last few years. There is no way I could sit through a full game now, I can barely bring myself to watch the highlight vids of my favorite teams.
