Sligo Rovers recorded a famous European away victory with a superb 1-0 win against Motherwell. Aidan Keena's first half lob was enough to give The Bit O' Red a one goal advantage heading into the second leg at The Showgrounds next Thursday.

As a supporter of a Dublin LOI club, I was delighted to see Sligo win. That said, it's only half time so still a job to be done by Sligo next week. Regardless, it's advantage Sligo and I am confident a fitter and more battle-hardened Sligo are going to finish the job next week and will be even better at home. I see the leaky motherwell defence being hit with a few sucker-punches as they chase the game and Sligo winning once again.

Everyone needs to realise that you can't take League of Ireland teams for granted. Most if not all are now professional. There are now about four of five pro sides in Northern Ireland as well, and Linfield are also excelling in Europe at present.

SPL is gash. I'm a Preston fan and we've signed a few big SPL names, Louis Moult aside, all have underperformed and usually leave on a free. Signed Alan Browne and Sean McGuire from Cork City and they've been top class. SPL is about the same level as League One in the England. Looking forward to seeing how Robbie Brady performs next season. I think LOI is a slightly higher level than SPL.

@@Support-your-local-team A lot of SPL players cannot handle the pace of Championship football. Less time on the ball than in SPL. LOI players seem to be able to handle it. I don't follow LOI, I do keep an eye on SPL so I know what a player is like when he comes down south. I used to go and watch QOS before they got an awful plastic pitch. Scottish fans are better and the atmosphere is better, but the football is poor and seems to be getting worse.
