I was there and Saints poor efforts in the first half cost us. 2 of the 3 tries Wigan scored in that half were certainly avoidable and so was the match winning one but the pies were good enough to take them. Overall I think Wigan just edged the game and think it will go down as a classic Challenge Cup semi final.

Really poor crowd for a double header. Remember 30,000 or so Wigan Warrington 1989 Wigan stains 1990. Rugby league is very much a minority sport.

I went to many cup ties in the 80's and early 90's when I had leave. The standout memory for me was Warrington and Wigan at Wilderspool in 1984, the John Ferguson try with Brett Kenny on his shoulder urging him on to score. The entire Wigan end erupted, that's when we knew we had a chance to win the cup. The away end out singing the Warrington supporters. Sadly support for RL is dying, wish it could be reversed, but short of a massive cash injection, I don't think it will. A short sighted salary cap that is not index linked, no more star players coming over here to play, NB Brett Kenny and John Ferguson, add into that Mal Meninga, ET, Wally Lewis, Sterlo, Eric Grothe, Gene Miles, Crusher Cleal, Bob Lindner, Gary Jack etc etc. Wigan has become a feeder club to Canberra Raiders, Ethan Havard will be on his way in a couple of seasons. And I do not blame him, 3x more money and a lifestyle that lads in their early 20's dream of. Make the most of it while we can mate.
