Reading the comments here, I love that you are responding to them. I think your videos are really appreciated among the community...at least I know I like them, and the discussion they form. Reading slackscience is fun, but watching a video is always exciting :) Thanks man. Keep doing what your doing. :)

Thanks. They are fun to make and I like to learn almost everything from youtube... so why not!? haha

What is the point of having such a loose backup line? I would think having it fairly close in tension to the mainline would be more beneficial wouldn’t it?

You were on some other level for this video. 🤙🏻

I’m confused as to why two strands are required, I’m a climber majority of the time and there is only one rope, so why need two when high lining because the anchors are already 6 times redundant if you have 3 bolts on each side

Love your videos. One thing only, I would prefer quieter background music.

Good feedback. I try to get rid of that awkward silence in a video with the background music... but I will turn it down next time. Thanks.

Thanks for this video, and so many others! A question for you...If you were to use a dynamic rope for your backup line, but needed to reduce the stretch a bit to avoid a ground fall in the event of a mainline failure, would it be ok to apply some tension to it?

is a weblock necessary on the backup line? if not what can you do?
@HowNOT25 жыл бұрын
Sewn loops on static side on both lines and 1 weblock for main on tension side and frost knot on backup line is fine

Nice one. But. I found one issue, static rope stretches about 3% but under 50-150kg tension, @10kN it could be more then most webbings. Dynamic rope have about 30% stretch during fall (usually not more then 7kN). Otherwise, keep makeing this channel ;)

True. Philipp Gesing just told me this too. Static ropes aren't exactly stretchy and should never be used as a lead rope but I realize, now that you and Philipp, bring it up, static rope stretches very similar to most webbings. I learn a lot myself from feedback, keep it coming :). Thanks.

In fact, they are stretching more than any webbing at any tension! here is the data covering this: www.slacklineverband.com/know-how/slackline-vergleich-dehnung/

Thanks. That is a very interesting chart. It shocked me. Something we should keep in mind, a low to no tension highline won't stretch that much because it is at the bottom of that chart. No one is getting it to 10kn with a whipper if there isn't tension in the line. From my personal experience, whipping on a line (regardless of what type) 100 feet or shorter (with no tension) can really give one a jolt. So if you took a 30 foot whipper on a static rope during a mainline failure (it has 0 tension), it could really suck.

Hello man! I am from Lyon, and there is no many cliff but a lot of trees! Can you make an episode on how not to TREELINE? for example in this video, you show a 10 meter treeline I guess, how did you climb to these trees and how did you do the installation? I think i have done some mistakes on my last installation ;)
@HowNOT27 жыл бұрын
I'll do one on trees! But in the mean time.... Just do it like you would down low but I make my anchor that I'm hanging from while rigging and the anchor I'm attached to when I ascend up to the line about 10 or even 15 feet above the point that my mid-line would be. That really helps things. Just make sure your rope is off to the side and not rubbing your slackline when rappelling and ascending. I also can back up the tails of my mid line to this higher point so in case my super duper strong spanset were to fail I'm still safe :). As far as climbing a tree... I have no idea... I used a ladder and branches and girth hitches! Just stay tied in one way or another while you are up there. KZbin it! haha
