@@hannofranz7973 Right, I kinda thought so. I grew up with German tv so I understand it very well, speaking is harder with the grammar being complicated but I used to speak it like a native (as in sometimes they didn't realise I was not German), I never managed that with English, but I can write it like a native. I did notice that sämtliche replaced alle at some point for some reason.

Regular meaning of geil in German: horny. Once my late father told me that geil was a taboo word when he was young (born 1933). Maybe that's the reason "geil" could get an additional meaning (awesome, cool). But it's kind of a slang word. Not everyone uses it that way.

"Opgewonden" is perfectly finy to express excitement. It literally means "thrilled" in most cases . If you have a toy that you wind up with a key it will be "opgewonden" as well. And yes, one meaning is "turned on" but with that example I have a hard time believing it even happened. Nobody would miss that concept if they talk Dutch regular. If an N is behind a word, it is generally said. However most people will kind of swallow it during conversation. This will happen with other letters like t as wellin some areas of the Netherlands.
@jbird4478

You're absolutely right about the 'n' being dropped in words ending with '...en'. Dutch people do that a lot. I'm Dutch myself, but I can honestly say that, if you'd wish to learn speaking standard Dutch properly, you should be taught by a Flemish teacher. The Flemish in Belgium don't drop the 'n' as much as we do, or at all. Within the Netherlands it also depends on the region. In the south ern part of the country the 'n' is dropped less due to a much closer connection to the Flemish and their accents, but it still happens more than in Flanders. A video on the channel Easy Dutch discusses the differences in word usage for the same thing meant. There is a short interview with a Flemish guy saying he is a standard Dutch teacher, and he states that Dutch people are quite sloppy with pronunciations, mentioning dropping the 'n' at the end of words as an example. I kinda agree with him. However, it is common in pretty much any western languages to drop letters from the end or the center of words. You, for example, drop the 't' at the end of words if it is written after a vowel. That's just common. The dropped 'n' in Dutch is essentially quite the same thing. You will find that this generally happens in verbs and plural forms for things. Also, I'm surprised that you sometimes manage to make the 'r' at the end of a word roll more. You 'correct' yourself when Kim repeats the sentence and you hear a more English related 'r'. However, it's not necessary to correct that 'mistake', because this is one of the letters that is pronounced very differently in words like 'er', depending on the region people live in. Actually, people from the southern part of the country consider Kim's version of the 'r', which is used in the west and center of the country, to be what Dutch people would call 'bekakt' (I believe that this is best translated to English as 'posh'; I hope that's correct). The Flemish roll the 'r' even more than southern Dutch people do.

He was aboute 3 to 4 months in the netherlands.and he was studying to speak Dutch, he had a dictionary with him. During the 2nd breake he asked me to pronounce a sentence for him. It read something like yes, I will do this right away ( is goed dat zal ik meteen gaan doen) instead of telling him the right words, I changed it into something a little dirtier. And told him a false translation that was lick my balls( lik me langs de ballen) as a joke ofcourse, he practiced this sentence for aboute 5 minutes. And then the supervisor came in and asked him to come with him,so they went outside, the supervisor explained to him what he had to do, and he said the words and giving a dubble thumbs up. Then the supervisor came back to our break unit, laughing and jerk don't teach him the bad words.😂😂😂

Gawd that last one really is a brain teaser. Depending on the context we could say a whole slew of things in return. Definitely not the one this person used, but- yeah... hhm... it does actually mean the same thing, oddly enough. In this particular context... I'd probably go with 'Ik ben zo blij' or 'het is zo geweldig', or something along those lines. Those would mean 'I am so happy', and 'it is so amazing' respectfully. Means the same thing, basically, as 'I'm so excited', but it doesn't mean you're popping a tent or sliding out of your chair... although you might be, what do I know really, I won't judge.

Most misunderstandings and mispronunciations are based on the Dutch writing of oo, replaced by the English oo Dutch Hoop sounds like English Hope, and has the same meaning. Like Stroop sounds like Strope and not the English pronunciation. Dutch Hoor sounds like English Hore, and means hear, but is used as an American uses 'you see'. In a sentence: Het is niet makkelijk, hoor! >> It ain't easy, you see! When pronounced the English way you get the Dutch Hoer (Whore). Dutch Boord sounds like English Bored, but has the meaning of Collar or Board, pronounced the English way you get Dutch Boert (burping). 😜
