@@johmsmith9496 To be fair to CarVertical, they can only find what has been reported. Neither of the ends was severely damaged, so it may well have never been reported or subjected to a claim against insurance. Somebody backs a bit too far into their garage and clouts the rear wall, or clumps into a railing at the station car park, or bangs into the flower pots outside the pub, they may pick up a replacement bumper from a scrapyard and ignore any damage beneath, because it can't be seen with the new bumper in situ. They then flog the car before its next MOT is due. How could any checking service possibly identify these issues?

hi, We bought our daughter a 53 plate Clio 1.2 16v in black, slightly higher spec it has the sun roof ! and a/c . The ABS issue is probably one of the relluctor rings on the drive shaft, (available separately from the drive shaft), the scraping sound is more than likely one of the brake pads anti rattle mounting bits touching the disc, you get new ones with a set of pads . The boot floor damage with no cracks or split metal & corrosion and therefore is not an MOT fail. The oil issue - clean it up & check the rocker gasket they can split & leak down the side of the engine / gearbox, or cold be also just careless filling of oil. Rear exhaust mount is normally just the rubber bungee thing. Daughter still has her Clio, bought at 48K now on 125K after 13 years its taken her through Uni and beyond. Her sun roof doesn't leak and the a/c has only needed re gassing once. Rear bearings are cheap and an easy DIY job. Still no corrosion and just had a no advisory MOT a month ago. Cracking car.

I have a 2001 Renault Mégane that I bought over ten years ago. Until the second timing belt change last year ( it cost nearly as much as I paid for the car) , it was an economical car to run. A full service will cost me nearly half of what I paid all those years ago. Hopefully it'll sail through the MOT later this year. The cost of a new car or second hand car, forces me to keep paying to keep my car on the road.

The point is he's making vids to show us what to look out for and although he's making money we would'nt be, so, to go buy plates/trims before you had it serviced/MOT'd is not good advice.

Enjoyed this one Matt, all the various edits like with the wheel trims before and after really enhanced it. Great to see where you get your plates too and giving the company free advertising. Get rid of this one and buy another, it’s got a hidden past. Must be Clark Kent Superman III where he goes bad and tells porkies about a car.

If I'm going to be a guest on your show then my first car was a 1963 Triumph Herald 1200. Good luck in trying to buy one of those. Not for long. Training to get a marine engineer so started to transplant engines until I had a tuned up 6 cylinder 2 litre Vitesse engine in it. On drum brakes all round. Think 8 paid around £10 for engine and gearbox in 76/77 from Grestys scrap yard

Enjoyed this. My first car was one of these, also in black but with the DCI engine. Brings back some good memories, and a bad one when the head gasket went.

I love how your videos all contain subtle Partridge references. I picked up on at least 2, and am sat here wondering whether "what a waste" is an intentional Parole Officer ref.

I was really lucky to pick up a silver 04 plate one of these with ~40k on the clock recently as a first car. MOT with no advisories too. Sad to see this one in such a state. The black looks so clean in comparison to my "chrome escargot" on wheels. Great vid.

I bought one of these new in 2001, the pre facelift version. They’d fitted the wrong instrument cluster at the factory so I kept getting all sorts of warning lights showing on the dash but once that was sorted it was a good little car, quiet, comfortable and handled well but very slow. There was a V6 version at the local car show the other night, probably a lot faster than my 1.2! Also my colleague was given an almost new one as a courtesy car, wouldn’t start , he rang the Renault dealer who said the key was faulty and just to bang it on something then it would work. Sure enough it did…..
