That car is a motorway basher, you can tell by how the gear stick gator and steering wheel aren't worn to shreds. There's plenty of life in this car and it shows. David I agree. Was looking for a Mondeo a year ago but couldn’t drop on one in my price range as UK cars so expensive, if I saw a good one it always ended up being a diesel and I wanted petrol.Got a Focus in the end, a MK3. I always loved Escorts but not been with Ford for some time, drove Volvos and Honda and as much as I loved Escorts I can see why the Focus is well respected. I was never a fan of the MK 2 interiors but I love the MK3 it feels quality and looks nice. Good spec too just like the Mondeo’s. I was wary of those 3 cylinder 1 litre turbos as a second hand but they must have e your work so hard to pull a car like Focus around, I got the Duratec 4 cylinder 1.6 VVT. Had 67k on clock now done 77k. Had to replace a hose in last year but that’s it, fingers crossed. I changed oil after doing 5K as I always do with every car. It doesn’t burn any oil and it’s still looking pretty clean after 5K so that’s nice to see just about to book it in for full service. I’ve been in a few Mondeo’s over the years, very good cars, the Titanium and Titanium X spec cars looked very smart, and even the older Mondeo’s (pre 2000) I thought the interiors were much nicer than the German equivalent that were too dark and dull.
@ianwalters112 жыл бұрын
@@sandersson2813 yeah I know that was an issue on some of the motors but if you pick right Fords are nice cars to drive (see my post reply to David) . I’ve always loved them and I’m hindsight I don’t know why I loved some of them lol, take the MK2 XR2 for example. I obsessed about those as a kid but they were very basic and not especially fast compared with their rivals at the time, like Astra GTE and Pug 205, maybe that was the appeal though, car was so light and no electronic aids so a simple and fun car. A bit of tuning soon got them more lively though, my neighbour had K&N fitted with a sports exhaust and then had an upgraded Kent cam fitted and those 3 mods have modest gains but definitely made it feel a hotter hatch. Loved the XR3’s, RS Turbo’s, XR4’s and of course RS Cosworths. Ford always made popular sportier variants of their cooking models in the 80’s snd early to mid 90’s. Went a bit crap then until the first RS Focus came out. Sorry I’m rambling now, but the MK 3 upwards Focus (2011 onwards) have a premium feel to them. Very good driving position/handling, sound system is very nice too with loads of options. Mondeo’s always been nice to drive too, especially like 2010 onwards. Much nicer experience than Astra/Insignia and the like IMO.

Whoever's bought that has got an absolute gem! If it was still for sale I'd have been *very* tempted myself! Back in 2015 I bought a Mk4 Astra that was due to be scrapped. Still had 9 months MOT on it, but the previous owner appeared to use it as a smoking shelter, never washed it and the engine management light was on. The interior was also filthy. Had the invoice from a service only 1500 miles previously too. I gave £120 for it and drove it home. Plugged in an OBD2 reader to check the codes, only one fault came back so I cleared it and it never came back. It had a headlight bulb out so I spent £10 on a new one, and a further £10 on air fresheners. Spent half a day cleaning it up and I was surprised at just how tidy it did look with a bit of TLC. Put it on eBay a couple of weeks later - as an auction, unfortunately - and it was bid up to £600. Of course the buyer was a complete messer, and by the time he'd decided he didn't want it other bidders had lost interest. So I ran it myself as a bit of a beater for the next 8 months and didn't spend another penny on it. Put in on eBay again as an auction as spares or repair with a month MOT left on it, expecting it to go for buttons, which would have been fine, I'd only spent about £140 on it in total and did about 6k miles in it. But it ended up selling for £480. There are definitely some decent buys at the very bottom end of the market!

Earlier in the year, I picked up a 56 reg 2 litre diesel Mondeo Titanium X for £800 with 118k miles on the clock as just a cheap little runaround. Not a bad car either, got nice creature comforts on it like heated and cooled seats etc. Seems decent on diesel and it has full service history. When I got it, it was in a sorry little state. Needed the injectors doing which is a common fault on my model, got that done for £400 and the turbo actuator arm had seized up. Bought a replacement actuator for £25 off eBay, 10 minute drive on the job and now it drives good as gold. Hasn’t let me down yet, starts every morning and gets up and goes with plenty of life in it. Looked on auto trader the other day and same spec model with higher mileage than mine (121k miles on it now) is going close to 2k. Obviously the market is hyper inflated right now, but if this car passes it’s next MOT in May, which I’ve no doubt it will and keeps going for another year, I’ve definitely got my moneys worth from it imho. Plenty of little runarounds out there than can be fixed up like mine and the one you bought and sold on for some profit, just gotta look around and not be fussy over the littlest of things.

My late husband had two old 1970s cars in the garage. I have no idea what they were. They were very low cars with two doors and both were painted in garish colours. They were also incredibly noisy when he started them up. He owned a steel importing business so cars were his oasis away from the pressure of business. I just left him to tinker with them. It kept him from being under my feet. I preferred my Nissan Micra anyway. I never liked his cars so a man with a trailer came and took them both away for free last month. I suppose I should have put new wheel trims on them like you did. They were much older than this car though so I don't suppose they'd be worth that much. I'm just glad to get rid of them. Just downsided from a Lexus RX to a Mk6 Vauxhall Astra (please don't Judge!) mainly because of fuel costs. The car had a raft of issues listed on the eBay listing, but the worst of which was a whining noise. I drove it back after paying £750 with the gearbox whining away and the check engine light on. Got it home to Portsmouth, changed the gearbox £350, and a water pump, a couple of VVT solenoids, a cam sensor and a re-time of the cams later the engine management light was out. I'm now running around in a car worth three grand down here that cost me less than half that. It's a typical small car that's been sat for a while that's not had simple issues sorted over it's life. But I reckon I can sort them for a lot less than the value of the car. Thankfully I can do the jobs myself so labour cost isn't an issue.

I recently bought my grandpa's VW Bora '04 SDI. No offense to grandpa, but it was terribly messy inside. The backseat mats were ill-fitting 3rd party mats and there was sand, dust, leaves and pine needles EVERYWHERE, not to mention really stained seats. The first week went into cleaning and washing it thoroughly (except the seats, which I will fix next week). It has had 4 previous owners and the 270k KM mileage is plenty, but it's a decent commuting car. There is still technical stuff to fix, like the AC filters (smells awful), especially when blowing warm air, and some of the quality of life features' electrical wiring / contacts are faulty. Still it's a decent car that runs well and it's much more pleasant to drive now that it's a tad cleaner. Hopefully it lasts for at least a couple of years until I can afford an upgrade.

If I’m any judge, I wouldn’t notice whether it had Ford trims or not, as long as they were new-looking. Then again, I’m not a bird, I’m more into the mechanical side.

Proof that you make your money by buying at the right price (and, ok, a bit of luck). A great underrated car and a super video, thanks.

What a nice bloke honest upfront sense of humour and you buy cars that are for everyday people. I have always had Ford and Vauxhall and they have been okay everyday cars. It is nice to see the more expensive cars though.

Bangernomics is a way of life for millions of us 👍. We bought a 2013 fiesta ecoboost 125bhp titanium in bronze with 108'000 miles,1 private owner from new in 2020,had an advisory for passenger front lower wish arm. So £60 and 4 hours of messing about on the drive had both sides replaced. Both MOT's in my ownership (Halfords,so no mates of mates) resulted in 2 advisory free mot's. Big decision next year coming up, do I have the wet timing belt changed (£800) due at 150'000 miles or 10 uears or sod it and run the risk of it detonating the engine 🤔 I think next year all 2013 ecoboost engined fords with the wet timing belt, could be a surprise for owners wanting to sell, but not have the belt changed, I think the car will be worth £800- £1000 less than they think to a clued up buyer 👍

I bought one of these with 98k. Same engine. Maintained it well but it started turning into a money pit after about 205k and got rid. I’m hoping my Honda lasts a lot longer.

I would say if that cars a decent drive they are one of the best cars to trade with, Had some good luck over the years with old mondeos. Had a 2004 petrol estate last week as a trade in, Passed it's MOT with no advisories. 1.8 and amazing on fuel btw!

I drove a 1.6 petrol Ford Mondeo 2008, 50,000 kilometers without any problems, during which time we only had a periodic service. The final mileage of the car was 380,000 km and it drove as if it had just left the factory.

I wouldn't say the buyer was savvy to be fair. He paid massively more for a car purchased lot long before for £800.00, just to facilitate a house move. Or perhaps he will keep it beyond this role, in which case he may well be savvy buyer as that looks a very solid car with an excellent service-history. Agree with you that it is good to see cars like this saved though, and I have no problems at all, with car traders profiting from this deal, *(unlike some commenters on KZbin and other places!

Just shows what a few hundred quid and some hard graft can do for a high miler. As for the photos, some people don't even show the interior! Almost tempted to try it myself.

I have a 2012 one, 2.0 Tdci...European "Trend" package and I bought it from a company as an exec car... It has a little bit more equipment like a Sony bluetooth radio, front and rear parking sensors, automatic dual zone climate and front fogs... It had 200 000km went I bought it and it's up to 230 000km now. It's been a dream I even drove it from Zagreb, Croatia to Kyiv Ukraine and back...no issues, It's a highway muncher altho in 235/45r17 it loves the bends... If you need a big estate in which you can sleep in and travel the world - Mondeo all day, no substitute 🙌 ... Even the name tells you what it's for Mondeo from a Latin word which means world... It's a world car 👍

Sumitomos are a Japanese tyre brand that used to be popular with the tuner crowd, and they did make some pretty good tyres in the past, but I don't hear so many good things about them anymore. Well, they're probably better than most of the Chinese stuff still, they're probably similar to Nankang or Riken in quality.

I have a mk4 mondeo like this one but a saloon model . Mines a 2.0 litre tdci powershift edge model just like this one and for a base model it’s a really nice car . I bought it with 13k on the clock and it’s done 30k now . Loads of room 6 speed box , a/c cruise control and blue tooth . Great to drive and pulls well . Good value for what I paid .

High mileage cars are Not always bad ( LONG HOT ♨ running, NOT SHORT round town STOP START STOP START ) IF they have looked after and properly serviced, and being of a good brand is big help, Toyota Camrys Corollas are a good example. Matt ( HPA ) i think you need a second area for displaying your cars for sale, Good ones at the front, and round the back scruffy ones 'as is where is' ( which means buyer accepts the car As is where is, No come back!! ) Some of the cheaper cars were not that bad, ( a Ford Focus, $150gpd recently, it was not too bad, certainly there are Worse around!! ) The wheel covers REALLY gave this car a lift!!!! I would not say 'fitting the new wheel trims' makes you a mechanic 🤣🤣

Hi from Australia. Huge fan of the diesel Mondeo MK4, the tragedy being that Australia only got the Powershift option. Not the manual. The death rate of the Powershift dual clutch (Getrag 6DCT450) must be fast approaching 100% down under? A real disgrace. Would have a manual version any day, but sadly we only got the self destructing option.

15 pounds for a mini valet? In Sweden you'd pay 50£ minimum. And a full one would be like 100£ or more. P.S. Profit of 1056£. Half goes to taxes 510£ left, then pay overhead costs. 310£. Real profit in pocket is probably 200£. Not bad for a few hours work (in total).

Watching this 2 years late, I've had a huge amount of cars go through my hands as I only buy cars like this for my own use. I've lost a lot of money by just choosing the easy route. The key is finding the right car, which is crucial in this type of pursuit.
