Miss Josephine Obboye has spoken well. I totally agree with her case for indiscipline in high schools today. Caning, as unpleasant as it is, has helped many of us in school during our days. It has even made some of us become better academically because we didn't want to suffer the pain of being caned by a teacher.

Very true, in the 90's in our secondary school days in Akwapem in the Eastern Region. We were punished in front of our juniors in assembly as final year students for going out of campus to watch a friendly football match btn the Ghana Black Stars and Norway national team around 11am in 1995 and it was that match that Ghanaians got to see a player called Malam Yayah. The next day by 6:30am students who were not in assembly before that time also got punished in front of our teachers and the headmaster and NOBODY COULD STOPPED US FROM PUNISHING LATE COMERS. AND THAT CHAIN OF COMMAND MADE STUDENTS VERY DISCIPLINED AND RESPECTFUL TO THEIR SENIORS AND TEACHERS AND EVEN OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL.🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭

They will take the punishment but would breed a certain hate for the punisher , When they complete would try to get some sort of revenge on the teacher or the school, Not all students are senseless , just talk to them in a friendly manner and get to know why they did what they did, and explain why you they need to be punished

At least, you have your life! The "killed" list is getting unending for the era of "canelessness". Check this: Though bush burning is deemed a bad practice, farmers are encouraged to carry out "controlled" bush burning because of the associated benefits of the practice itself. So should it be with corporal punishment in schools: make it controlled and not total withdrawal!

@ernestaddo-mensah Controlled? By who? The teachers will have many ways of controlling students if they are really interested. I bet upon all being said, not every teacher is going thru stress in school. There are teachers you can't simply disrespect. One more important thing, discipline starts from home so if parents can't control their wards then there is a problem. Can you list the number of kids who have been murdered in school? Can you say this never happened before, or have you never heard of it before because there was no social media?
