Opals Bodhi obviously if someone is buying foreign surplus they are not committing stolen valor. If a 20 year old buys a U.S. Vietnam era uniform they are obviously either a collector or it's a fashion statement. Even if someone wears a modern U.S. uniform it's perfectly fine as long as they don't wear the full uniform with full insignia in public.

You're too young to remember Pally's War Surplus Store in downtown L.A. in the late 50s to early 60s. It was a real surplus store where you could buy helmets, ammo belts all manner of uniforms and tactical gear. You could get a B-17 gyroscope or a Sperry ball-turret and all manner of aircraft components, literally everything except the weapons. We used to spend hours in this huge store, I mean big! I wanted to look at every single thing. I just started my flecktarn collection because German stuff is plentiful and cheap and I have to say I love the look and the quality. Well worth it for sure. The cool flecktarn jacket he picked up is only $10 all day and the big super nice parkas if you pay more than $30 you're getting ripped off even though the quality and what you get is worth more. Also the duffel bag the employee said he fit all of his clothes in is no joke for someone looking for an easier way to move clothes or laundry. I have the same one from when I was in the military and I lived entirely out of that bag comfortably for quite some time. It'll fit all your uniforms, every basic necessity you can think of and then a lot more. I love using it for clothes and bedding now though. I think there's a black hole in the bottom of it or something.

Just to put my insight as someone who recently went all across LA surplus hunting. This store definitely has the widest and nicest collection close to “the surplus store” however stock of old vintage is running thin and is now mainly modern camping gear and newer outdoors stuff. So if you get the chance swing by and buy whatever you can cause eventually this stuff will run out or be left online for inflated prices. Definitely a sick shop especially for old era helmets and gas masks.

Aidan Duncan I was implying that some dickhead would use that to their advantage for stolen valor.
@jagaterbarn57447 жыл бұрын
Aidan Duncan Which the majority of the time is the case. Also how would a vet lose a previous medal awarded to them? Even If you lost one why would you want to buy some other dudes award since they have the original recipients name on the back of the award on, oh I don't know, just about every medal that's ever existed for the U.S military. But whatever...
@sandwichartist50537 жыл бұрын
JAG ÄTER BARN soldiers coming back from wars would pawn or sell things they were issued all the time for extra money and then sometimes they regret it later on in life. It's not so much with awards but more rank insignia or unit patches. My grandpa bought an old seventh infantry pin because he's proud that he was in that unit and wanted another one. It's extremely rare that someone goes buys something like that for stolen valor. Most people are not that fucked up. Military collectors are extremely common as well.
@jagaterbarn57447 жыл бұрын
Aidan Duncan And what your Grandpa was perfectly reasonable. Unit patches are a different ball game then say the Silver Star, or a Purple Heart. That's where the issue comes into play because people will sometimes buy one giving some fake ass story with no pictures or proof as the people they tell it to are so stupid they believe them. But yeah, identifying with a Unit or MOS. That's fine with me.

lol my uncle was cracking at this comment mans was seal in vietnam before they were considered special just meant to kill civilians and shit
@justinmebes4767 жыл бұрын
Maxx's World now it's my turn to pretend like I know what I'm talking about because I sort of do so here goes me eating my own words: SEALs never just "killed civilians" fortunately. They started in WW2 as divers and they called em "frogmen" which lead to renaming them SEALs which I'm sure you know means "sea, air, and land" and the Navy used them to kill the bad dudes, never civilians thanks to the laws we established on war crimes after WW1.

LMAOOOOO Navy seals were created by president jfk, my guy they were meant for unconventional warfare LOLOL
@justinmebes4767 жыл бұрын
Maxx's World unconventional warfare is war fought in the sea, air, and land. That's what I'm saying. What exactly do yo uthink that it means?

I used to wear all of this stuff back in the late 90's when I was a punk rock/hardcore kid. I used to shop at my local surplus store all the time, sadly they closed almost a decade ago. Kids these days are only wearing this because others wear it (hypebeasts) and because it's the trendy thing to do, they're posers just into it because others are doing it. Back then you wore it because you were in the military or were into punk/hardcore punk, and only a select few were into that.

Georg Sarlin awesome 👏 i liked their särmä windproof jacket, its an awesome thing to have if you do camping in a woods or hiking. i have also bought a shit ton of other clothing and boots, i even bought a bundeswehr eating kit (dont know what it is called in english lol) and i've used it. totally prefer this surplus stuff over those overpriced clothes made for civilian hiking/camping

You have lots of students running around with Flecktarn shirts here in Germany. They usually don't wear matching trousers though, as it is forbidden for civilians to wear a full uniform.
