The excellent driving skills I've learnt from this clip: 1. The right pedal is the gas pedal. You should use it. All the time. 2. The second pedal is... doesn't matter. You don't need it. 3. The middle of the steering wheel is the horn. You should use it. All the time. 4. You always have the right of way because you are big and they are small. 5. If there's a gap, go for it. It works for Lewis Hamilton. It will work for your 50 innocent passengers. 6. If there is an object infront of you, see 1 and 3 above. The object will eventually not be infront of you. 7. Don't stay on one lane too much time. A few seconds is by far too much time. 8. You get extra bonus points for crossing white lines in the middle of the street. You can use them later for buying recharge health rewards. Just like on a video game.

I learned a lot watching this video. In the U.S when we beep our horns it means something else but in India it seems to be a form of signaling and a routine part of driving. Also everyone seems fairly skilled and adept at driving close to one another. I also learned something else. In the US when we see India on the news its either govt buildings or people living in huts and wearing robes and sandals and walking around religious shrines. But when I watch these actual bus tours of India I see it's really no different from here in the U.S. In fact parts look identical. I saw places that reminded me of the Southwest US, my home state of Virginia, places that reminded me of DC, Baltimore, Chicago, etc. It looked like "Anytown USA". This is the first time I am really seeing India, and it looks no different or less advanced than the U.S. Guess we all really are the same.

as an Indian, I can confirm this is literally how all buses drive. And it's not even as bad as how it is all around India.
@kingmakerbull3 жыл бұрын
For the uninitiated, I am going to give a few pointers: 1) In India people drive on the left. 2) In India, the speed limit on highways is 100 km/h and on Expressways it is 120 km/h. 3) The concept of speed gun / radar barely exists in India. I have never seen one in my lifetime. 4) The highway patrols in India are carried out by the respective state police forces. As such there is no policing due to the police being severely understaffed / under equipped. 5) In India, getting a job in a state transport corporation is relegated to who can pay the most bribe. 5a) Getting a license in India can also be accomplished without an exam by just paying a bribe (though the current government is trying its best to change it by exploring computerized standard theory tests, the resistance from the officials is stiff to let go of their old habits and bribe collections). 6) Few states, if any, in India have rigorous driver training exercises like 'Smith system'. 7) 99% of these drivers do not even know the basic emergency help / first aid procedures. 7a) This driver is not even wearing a seatbelt and most drivers don't (the buses are not even equipped with them) let alone the passenger. 8) Overtaking on the wrong side is rampant. This is because nobody thought them about lane discipline. 8a) Indians love to honk. They think that they have to rush home and save 2 minutes than being safe and patient. Whereas Europeans / Americans honk when someone around makes an egregious mistake, Indians honk because they want to get home early. 9) Most (not all) of these drivers are underpaid and overworked. 10) Since their income also depends on a percentage of the collection (i.e. ticket sales) that they can do every day, they try to cram as many people in a bus as possible. 11) Many drivers far exceed the limit that one is allowed to drive before a break. They sometimes go 12-14 hours non stop without sleep. 11a) Most trucks that are seen in this video are barely roadworthy, if at all. They have all been settled by paying a few thousand quid. 12) Human lives are cheap in India, more so when a few things can be settled with a bribe in case of an accident. 13) The Indian mentality is one of finding a temporary fix than a permanent solution. 14) Most of the time it results in shoddy stuff that causes more pain later (the driver not wearing seatbelt, the pillion rider on the bike not wearing a helmet are a few examples). 15) Hope this clears up misconceptions about this video. 16) India is a wonderfully diverse countries, but it has drawbacks too. 17) Changing the system in India is a painfully slow process since it is a democracy and the inertia is too high. 18) Hope things change for the better in the future and there is safe driving everywhere in India.. Peace.

For anyone who has never been to India and is complaining about the bus drivers driving; know this, they have road laws in India, but they are just suggestions. India is not as car focused as the rest of the world considering their population. Taxi drivers drive the same way. The population, vehicles, and people in the streets, do not allow for single file type driving. To keep everything free of traffic and slow downs, they drive this way. Also, what he was on is called a "super fast bus." They have a very limited time schedule and have to get to your destination at a certain time.

0:41 that bus is way too fast on a Terminal where there is some foot traffic. 5:43 ahhh yes DON'T Stop on a junction and DON'T yield oncoming traffic. 8:28 a massive truck is on an overtaking lane. 9:20 he should have slowed down to about 40kph, because there might be a pedestrian about to cross the road. 9:55 the orange truck is fine, it's on a Slow Lane, but that massive lorry is on the overtaking lane and the bus driver just accelerated through that small gap! 10:22 No Indications, that truck just swerved to the left. 15:40 again... truck on an overtaking lane. 18:35 you can clearly see that there's a Taxi on a junction that's about to turn. why didn't you just slow the F*** down. 19:05 DON't overtake on a solid yellow line... from 19:43 to 20:00 this just gives me a headache. 20:08 pointing at the scooter rider like it's directly his fault that the bus driver had to overtake
