Halop came from a theatrical family; his mother was a dancer, and his sister, Florence Halop, was an actress who worked on radio and in television." "Usually called Tommy in the films, he had the recurring role of a gang leader in a series of films that featured the Dead End Kids. He played with James Cagney in Angels with Dirty Faces (1938).." This was one of the better Highway Patrol episodes --- the story line was simple and straightforward, and there was never any doubt who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. On a side note, it was interesting to hear the bad guy with the glasses use an old-fashioned Mid-Atlantic accent (14:53), something that's almost disappeared . This was an affectation once used by actors (Katharine Hepburn, for example), and commonly thought of as an "upper class" accent that was often confused, incorrectly, with a British accent.
@axiomist10765 жыл бұрын
That was no high class accent. If anything it was a cheap imitation of a New York accent. Kat didnt sound like this riff raff at all.

What he has is a New York accent. Nothing classy, like Kate.
@alphonsozorro79524 жыл бұрын
"The Mid-Atlantic accent, or Transatlantic accent, is a cultivated accent of English blending together prestigious American and British English.", according to the official definition. Most Americans in old movies and TV series don't sound like modern Americans at all. Whether they use "mid-Atlantic" accent or not, they definitely sound better than modern American males and females with their metallic-like unpleasant voices.

No camera's, no bullet proof vests, no cell phones, no body radios.I'm amazed to see the field radio they used. It's amazing how they solved crimes before all those things isn't it? Good old fashioned brains,and they used them too. Today, more and more electronics, and the more mankind gets lazy and the more common sense they lose. Sad. I myself am very happy to think, to drive my own car, tend to my life, without being tied to electronics. I have a cell phone, with over 2000 minutes that have rolled over. I'm home, call my house. I have a 1989 Bronco II XL, and when something needs to be repaired, it's pretty inexpensive. I may be on the lap top, but that is the only way I have to watch tv. I don't own a tv anymore. Wow, how do I keep breathing without electronics? haha You know when the man in the boiler room mentioned there is a kid in an iron lung, the thought of an iron lung has scared me my whole life for some reason. It is freaky when you think about it. I wonder if they are still used today.

Your electronic dependency is greater than mine with no cell phone and no lap top computer. Those things emit dangerous radiation and you should read the reports of independent scientists. This episode is a great example of how people ruined a good thing. When I was young, hospitals and most public buildings, airports, were big open places, where you were not treated like a criminal for just walking around. If a guard said off limits, you simply complied. Large, open waiting areas, coffee shops were open to the public. The world is too complex now. So much was lost, as far as personal freedom. And the worst people, were those who sued everybody for everything. No personal responsibility, or shame. Now, the world has to accommodate to idiots. Shame.

Plus, you would have emergency diesel generation of power, and several large tonnage chillers to cool things down. This looks like they sold all their hardware-unless this was some sort of anteroom office. The din of an engine room in a hospital is such that you would need hearing protection the whole time you were in there. They’re NOT quiet. If this were a real engine room the watcher would not be able to hear any dialogue.

That Dan Matthews is such an alpha male I feel like I'd make a citizens arrest on myself if I had to talk to him.

Interesting informative entertaining. Realistically portrayed citizens/criminals/law enforcement officials. Enjoy viewing 👀 the wall phone in the boiler room/automobiles/boiler room gauges of that era-!!!🤗. A good stiff drink would be in order after that days work-!!!😉

Does anyone recognize the hospital building… that does not look like a Hollywood set….I wonder if the building still stands
