The cars are the main reason I watch these old episodes. I enjoy how this show used vehicles from a variety of manufacturers throughout. I do wonder, however, how many of these were ever used as police cars in real life, despite the paint jobs or insignias on the doors that are shown.

*In a way, all these obscure actors make this show more realistic, since the viewer can't associate most of them with any other TV role. Except for rare exceptions, like Clint Eastwood, Robert Conrad, Stuart Whitman, Barbara Eden, and a few others, most of the actors who appeared on Highway Patrol never went anywhere. But their very anonymity gave them a certain believability in these roles. One other note: anyone who ever lived in California, as I used to, knows that the trees in May are not leafless in either Southern or Northern California as they were in this episode, proof this was filmed sometime in the winter months.*

This was back before 911, recording all calls to the police,and 911 addressing. If you didn't give them any address,they had no idea where to go. I remember when my Pop was in the hospital one of several times he was admitted for Black Lung. He bought me a gift from the Hospital Gift Shop. This was like 1965. It was a kids book teaching telephone etiquette. One thing it mentioned was how to use 911. We never heard of 911 at that time. That was only in big cities. Now, it is everywhere. Like where I live here in South Carolina. It is a rural area and it wasn't that long ago this still had a Rural Route (RR) address and when you called you had to give the RR number and directions. Today, they can pretty much locate an area someone is in if they use their cell phones. It wasn't that long ago they were using telegraphs and still sending telegrams. I wonder if they still do Singing Telegrams. I would LOVE to do those. Yes, I do sing, or I should say I used to. When I move I'm thinking of getting back into it again. Time for a comeback. haha

Trivia: In the Malcolm X movie, Malcolm asked someone to call 911, problem was movie set in 1963 and as you note, 911 didn't come along until 1965.
@helenkruse8 жыл бұрын
Dor Aran I don't know exactly what year 911 came to be,but I do know in 1965 the 911 service was in use in major cities like New York,Chicago,Washinton DC, etc. It was not yet in force in small towns and small cities even in the 1970's. When I left home in 1979 they were still not set up for 911 where I grew up in Pennsylvania. We still had to call the 7 digit number. I don't know if 911 was working in the major cities in 1963. I was too young that year to know. haha I want you to know in movies,tv shows,video games set in years past, they make alot of mistakes. They seem to let things slip when doing them. Like a movie set in 1953 showing someone wearing a digital watch,and we know they weren't yet invented. Little things like that. The best thing to do is watch documentaries,read History books to know what happened, or talk to older folks who were there or remember what happened at the time. Movies and tv shows dramatize things and in that process screw the real facts up. I still have the newspaper with the headlines about Clinton being impeached. I want my descendants to know the truth,and not the lies that will come in the future.

HIGHWAY PATROL Always a "must see" for Brit schoolboy me back in the 1950s. "No matter how new, the safest device on your car is you." Crawford's closing comments 1950s Brit schoolboy me was always impressed with them. That one the best of many good ones. Always left me impatiently waiting for the next episode. Here in the UK, modern 5* SUV users would do well to keep that in mind always. The only safety device on any vehicle worth a damn is the quality of the nut holding the steering wheel. Crawford a great character actor back in the day. His portrayal of a real nasty Gunslinger in the film "The Fastest Gun Alive" was real scary stuff. Very convincing.

Interesting in this series how the darker aggressive side of women's makeup comes through in many episodes. Don't know if this was intentional with the writers, but it says a lot of reality to me. Can say this because I come from a family of females with similar personalities. Also, interesting is how they get equal treatment by HP. Car styles interesting! Also, the lack of franchised establishments is so good to see. Have never seen so many convertibles and station wagons. The station wagons are the forerunners of SUV's today. What would life be if dedication and determination in some of our public office holders were like the officers. FOR THE GOOD OF THE PUBLIC!

@1:35 when she pulls up in that beautiful 2 dr sedan! Notice ALL car descriptions are always the color and that is it. No make and model. ANYWAY when she walks into the phone booth which we no longer have anymore. EXTINCT! Now SHE is ACTING WITHIN acting ahahah!

2150 by. Dan Matthews said he talked to Mrs. Lohman 3 times today. Lets see now, she called about being robbed on Hwy 11 and then a school bus accident on Hwy 40, what other call did she make to the Hwy Patrol? Good episode.
@stevefowler17878 жыл бұрын
+Ronclown the 3rd time was during the robbery dude...really, how did you misunderstand that?

Back in the late 80’s the company I was flying for the owner of the company was receiving calls about someone dressed in there pilot uniform hitting bars all over town trying to impress and pickup women. What gave him away is no pilot in there right mind would wear the uniform while drinking in public much less going to a bar. I don’t know if he was actually caught in the act. This episode brought back that memory. Lol

Feminism was around long before the 1950s. It just had different nomenclature and different immediate goals... such as getting the vote and close- to-equal human rights within the institution of marriage. Matthews' remark was excessively derisive and aimed at an entire gender, not the criminal who got herself caught by overplaying her role. I think the show's producers figured that a large majority of the viewership was male. This was an entertaining episode, as most of them are.

24:51 That Crawford line about women and telephones was funny, and still true to some extent in 2020. But Mathews spoke to the female accomplice twice! Script fail.
