I grew up in a house on a highway and this is what I listened to falling asleep until I left home. Nothing beats listening to a truck coming down the highway late at night when there’s no other traffic - you can hear it for aaages before it actually passes.

I used to work in LA. I love sleeping to the sound of the Golden State (5) freeway from the 18th floor of the media center in Burbank. My dog loved the sound just as much. He would put his head out the window, and smile with his tail wagging all night.

Thank you. This is very nice. Besides the Doppler effect whine of the big rigs, there is also the clump-clump of them driving over the concrete sections. I tried something like this myself back in the early 2000s. I found a stretch of freeway near Castle Rock, Colorado, where the freeway sat in a "bowl", to better concentrate the sounds. I recorded it with a tie pin microphone connected to a MiniDisc recorder. The results were actually pretty good.

There is a flat stretch of busy two lane highway by the parking lot at work with a 45mph limit and few trucks. It is amazing how relaxing the buzzing of car tires are, almost hypnotic. I recline the car seat, set the phone alarm and grab a lunch hour power nap. The trucks here are too loud,
