Always great to see Peter Cook on anything, thanks for the upload.

Thank you for sharing this - I loved Peter Cook! I was only 13 when this was originally aired and haven’t seen it before. Was worth it!

Exactly 1 minute and 0 seconds into the video after an advert before the video even begins, another advert. Thank God Google doesn't just throw adverts around anymore!

I think Paul exhibited a little irritation that Wossy got to interrupt with silliness more than himself. Paul often shows disinterest at others' jokes.
@Sou1defiler2 ай бұрын
he always did. he was always convinced he was "the funny one" and was always incensed if someone made a joke. You could almost hear him saying "I suppose I better laugh or people will think I'm jealous"

Odd that a man with as much comedic talent as Peter Cook had so little to input to the show.

I would not be surprised if he'd had too much to drink beforehand. Although his 'Hoover sucked but did not inhale' joke is superb...basically three jokes in one.

Let's not forget Merton and Hislop forced Deayton out over some sort of drugs and prozzie mischief. Some weeks, Deayton had the best jokes, many of them off the cuff, so maybe that was the real reason. It stopped being funny years ago, and as for satire... waste of space.
@lfcizdabest4 жыл бұрын
It did stop being good years ago. But it was gradually on the wane in the last couple of Deayton years. And no, I don't think there was any jealousy. Deayton never really had the best off the cuff material. Merton was top in that regard. In fact, my personal opinion is that a significant reason the show isn't good anymore is because Merton can't really be bothered. He's operating at like 20% of his ability on there now, in contrast to his live stuff with The Comedy Store Players.

@@lfcizdabest I remember Angus carried on for a short while after THAT episode, but then they had Christine Hamilton on, and had Angus refer to her husband throughout as 'The disgraced former MP Neil Hamilton', to which she replied, '...What does that make you?' From then on, he was fucked and that was that, out he went. And yes, you're right about Paul these days- needs to pull his finger out!
@gaskellr44 Жыл бұрын
You are wrong on all counts. The show arguably would not be able to carryon due to the level of exposure attached to Deaytons situ, he would be undermined, everytime he tried to make a joke at someones expense. They would be able to bring up his past. Quite strange looking back, re around 94-96, on some episodes, there are some references to him being in the paper, especially Hislop bringing it up, so maybe he was up to things even then but obviously not serious enough to cause ruffles in the show.
@beenaplumber837910 ай бұрын
@@gaskellr44 I think Jimmy Carr showed that a TV host can face guests after a major public scandal. Face it head-on, expect it to come up randomly, forever, be humble, and learn to laugh along. That can't be an easy road, but it's possible. Angus didn't seem to blame Paul and/or Ian. He said there was more going on behind the scenes than they ever knew.
@gaskellr4410 ай бұрын
Well you could maybe read what A D had to say about how he was treated, espechially by P M, but as I said, he had to go for the sake of the show. J Cs situ was atotally different thing as he hadn't done anything illegal or at the severety of what A D did at the time in the eyes of the Beeb. Horses for courses, since if J Cs activities had been at the level of A Ds, he would have been gone, even if it was Ch 4 and not the Beeb I think.@@beenaplumber8379

Never been as sharp as it was with Deayton. Modern HIGNFY fears satire due to complaints and spends most of its time laughing at the guest host. Very witty 😔
