Oddest thing about her was that she made close friends with Michael's strange financial people Diamond & young, even making them Tiger's god parents. These were the people who told the family that he had died penniless, but failed to list any of his man properties in his estate. They also never revealed what was sold to pay off ALL of Paula's debts, including 2 million in legal fees and provided her enough to never have to work and to buy 2 homes. Strange.

To this day, Paul's rant about Anne Robinson's strange wink is one of the funniest bits of comedy I've ever seen. I hadn't watched it for quite a number of years, and had it in my head recently, so I watched it again, and I completely lost it.

What a waste.....Paula was so witty and actually very pretty, aside from the big smile which shows her back teeth. Incredibly sad what happened to her and Hutch and Peaches. RIP

She seems to be sniffing a lot at 16:47. Wonder why....

What on earth did Yates think was going to happen when she agreed to go on the program? What Ian and Paul did to embarrass her was nothing compared to the never-ending torture they inflict on Angus, for things that were genuinely scandalous. My guess is that she was on something that night.

@St3w4rt Her drug of choice was heroin. From my experience, others are often unable to tell when an addict is high.

Their discussing her implants fails to meet any standard of wit that comes immediately to mind.

It was weird, wasn't it? Was it considered a bit naughty to get breast implants back then? I saw this episode as a teenager when it first aired, but have no memory of that being thought of as salacious

This show was inappropriate at times. An example of the good old boys club.

Paula Yates caught a lot of flak from the others later. Ian and Angus really were walking a thin line.

Paula was subjected to so much offensive diatribe. She left a man she was not in love with and she was crucified for it. All these people and press should hang their heads in shame.

Perhaps she never watched HIGNFY before she agreed to go on; but she should have known that this is what they do all the time to guests who've been subject to press attention.

She isn't good but she had a terrible childhood. He father was a media vicar who got caught for the usual vicar sins. Made a reasonable career with a tragic end. Be kind.

Er...worse than that: Up until 1997, Yates believed her biological father to be Jess Yates, who hosted the ITV religious programme Stars on Sunday. A DNA test in that year revealed that her biological father was game show host Hughie Green.

I love that it say behind her” Oasis? It’s all a bit of a blur.” I hope it was directed at those “has beens” I will never listen to them and when KZbin recommends them I hit not interested. Never liked them even back then what a stupid band with stupid songs. I never knew to later what they said to poor Michael now I do that just makes me hate them forever

Paula Yates seems such a brat. She wants all the positives of fame and will get it any way she can, but then complains when people rip her apart for it.

I remember watching this at the time of broadcast. At the time I laughed, because Yates was a tough cookie. Now I find myself turning away watching this. Yates was at times silly and took stupid risks in her private life even before she met Hutchence which in the tabloid culture of the time (has anything really changed since then?) turned out to have contributed almost as much to her death as the drugs that killed her. At the end of the day 4 daughters lost their mother - that is tragic - and that family is still paying that price.

It is a tragic story, nothing less. I really like this episode though - despite the way some have portrayed it over the years, doubtless coloured by her heartbreaking demise, she holds her own, never shrinks, never loses her spirit. I think Ian got the perception she was being hypocritical on invasion of privacy, whereas I think she was being slightly more tongue in cheek and playful than he realised. It's a fun verbal sparring though, Paul backs her up and deflates the tension by making her laugh a lot. I think she comes across really well.
@edwardmulholland7912 Жыл бұрын
@@lfcizdabest She does come across well - Yates could handle Hislop for sure and she didn’t throw a tantrum and walk off. Maybe because of the benefit of hindsight I don’t enjoy this like I did in the ‘90’s. Would this behavior by Hislop be as acceptable today? Frankly, some of today’s “talent” need to be taken down a peg or two a lot more than Paula did then.
