My grandfather was an anarchist in the FAI, he was sentenced to death by Franco and spent more than 10 years in prison. He belonged to the columns that accompanied Durruti to defend Madrid. He was always a Spartan man, he did not drink, he never bought on credit, he said that it was an invention of capital to enslave the worker, he did not smoke, he was almost a vegetarian, he showered with cold water and he was a staunch defender of the environment. In many of his conversations he told me that the CNT-FAI had been wrong before and during the civil war. Before for attacking the "bourgeois" Republic and playing in favor of the fascists and during the civil war for not understanding that to win a war military discipline is essential. He also told me something that I always remember: the difference between fascists and Stalinists was that the former only murdered their adversaries and the Stalinists also murdered those on the same side.

Very nice description of what I understand happened, thank you for the story and bites of history
“The revolutionary atmosphere remained as I had first known it. General and private, peasant and militiaman, still met as equals; everyone drew the same pay, wore the same clothes, ate the same food, and called everyone else 'thou' and 'comrade'; there was no boss-class, no menial-class, no beggars, no prostitutes, no lawyers, no priests, no boot-licking, no cap-touching. I was breathing the air of equality, and I was simple enough to imagine that it existed all over Spain. I did not realize that more or less by chance I was isolated among the most revolutionary section of the Spanish working class.” George Orwell, Homage to Catalonia

@@idiocrat3744 The Regional Defense Council (CRDA) was a different organization than the FAI. The CRDA was an administrative entity initially organized by the CNT within Aragon for the final months of 1936 and most of 1937, while the FAI is an organization within the CNT that agitates for anarchism within the CNT. The FAI did have a significant amount of influence in the CRDA, but the CRDA included representatives from all anti-Nationalist forces in Aragon. Though the comment is referencing Hearts of Iron 4, where the player can control the anarchist forces in the Spanish Civil War, where the player is referred to as the CRDA rather than CNT-FAI, largely because the CRDA was the entity responsible for administration of revolutionary forces, which the CNT and the FAI formed a subset of.

In general, I'm in favor of unity between most branches of libertarian socialism. I'd see no problem working with, say, mutualists, democratic confederalists, and council communists in pursuit of a better society. I tend to draw the line at forms of socialism that call for a highly centralized state taking full control of society rather than building a society around grassroots institutions. While I wouldn't exclude Leninists and other such socialists from smaller scale projects such as building mutual aid structures, I would be very skeptical of forming a coalition with them when undertaking a project to transform a capitalist society into a socialist one.

The instrumental part is a truly beautiful succession of three musical threads : - The loud, boisterous, menacing horns, representing the hardships of the fight, - The soft, piano and staccatto violins for the distant paradise (hope) - then they combine triumphantly to give the final message: it is a hard fight, but worth fighting.

If that day comes, it's only because we destroyed our own civilization, when we physicially can't rule others because we, for example, nuked ourselves back to the stone age. Power corrupts, as much as we can optimistically envision the future, you can't change the human nature. If power is vacant, someone WILL seize it. It's the sad and painful truth of the world. If truly we could simply share love around and make people understand the joys of empathy and helping others, the world wouldn't be such a shit hole, but again, the real world isn't a sea of roses and you can't change human nature. There will always be the compassionate, along with the callous. You are promised absolute power, you may humbly refuse it, but be sure buddy, there is a huge line behind you eager to accept it.

What gigachads! I hope we can rise again and not fail by the liberals and "reformists" in our movement! As much as we had hoped we could have started our own revolution in america, we must learn from both the mistakes in our past and the mistakes in the present if we want to create the truly free world we dream of into our reality.
@123four...2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, although make sure not to antagonize liberals too much. We might not agree with them but being too harsh will dissuade them from looking towards other solutions like anarchism.
@123four...2 жыл бұрын
@@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee We don't have to stoop down to them or change anything about anarchism, we just need to always be welcoming. Antagonizing them from the start is only going to make them not look into anarchism in the first place.
@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee2 жыл бұрын
@@123four... I am sorry, this is exactly the type of thing we need to be overtly against. If a liberal stands against us rising up for our liberation and you trying to appeal to their status-quo then we won't ever get anything done. And historically liberals hardly ever get any real change but rather active minorities that stand against that status quo. Caring about appealing to liberals when they are so easily tricked into falling to establishment lines makes the unreliable at best and thus we should seek to work with fellow anarchists first and foremost. We shouldn't have to stoop down to liberals levels and deradicalizing ourselves to be as acceptable to them, we need them to start standing up to ours. And a lot of modern drama on the left and infighting has been caused between radical far-leftists and liberal reformists trying to appeal to liberals and deradicalizing themselves so as to be socially acceptable to liberals and liberal issues. Which is why we have so many "vote blue no matter who" types, as if the spanish anarchists shouldn't have had risen up and just instead become submissive to the states will to achieve anarchy.
@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee2 жыл бұрын
@@123four... Well we shouldn't seek liberals then, revolution almost never comes from the status-quo, or working within it, but rather active determined minorities. We should instead focus on working with other like-minded individuals rather than trying to convince centrists who simply never will care about the struggles of the oppressed or which will hijack the movement for liberal issues and first-world problems all the while the world is at the risk of ending in its entirety due to rapid climate change. We can't just compromise and vote the "lesser evil" for the next 500 years when we will probably not even last around 30-100.
@123four...2 жыл бұрын
@@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee But you have to consider why they are centrists. Nobody is born a liberal, it's not some gene you inherit. Generally speaking, people become liberals because they don't know what else to become. They just never questioned the lies that are fed by the government and all the systems propping it up. But ultimately, I think most people would agree with a lot of anarchist ideas if they actually knew what they meant. The issue is that most people don't know anarchism since it is purposely obscured through propaganda and lies. And while channeling marginalized groups is absolutely necessary for anarchism, everyone is ultimately oppressed by the government. Anarchism can not succeed if it's seen as some scary fringe movement that only "extremists" follow. There will always be opposition to anarchism but so long as we plainly put ourselves out there, show people that we aren't scary, and plainly show people what we believe and why we believe it we can at the very least open people's minds and get them to start questioning the status quo. Because in a sea of groups founded on oppression, bigotry, and domination, the one group that is based on cooperation, compassion, and equality will ultimately succeed once all of the fog is lifted. But that can only happen if we are open and welcoming. It doesn't mean watering down anarchism, it just means not treating people like they are a lost cause because they fell for the brainwash.
