Hikaru's memory is so impressive that you don't even realise it until he starts rattling off a four knights Scotch variation that he played when he was a baby and remembers because of a vaguely similar pawn structure. It's incredible

What cracks me up is how Hikaru can turn 1 game into 1,000 possibilities. Don't get me wrong, it's super helpful for me as a beginner to see how to defend traditional openings, but it's hilarious how far he goes 😂

There are many variables in chess, therefore it is imperative that he glosses over a handful of different positional possibilities for each move. Or else he would just sound like Levi (Gotham Chess). Who wants that?

I don’t wanna shout out anyone here, but buying courses on this kind of stuff is usually the way to go. youtube videos like these can be good to warn you of simple threats but courses is usually where you’re taught sidelines. But also it’s the mainline for a reason, if they play anything else then they’re most likely just making mistakes that you need to learn to take advantage of

Late on this vid, but I hoped Naka highlighted the game more on the black's perspective cause Karo is a definitive black opening. I am in the midst of learning Karo but I always stumble on the idea of the e4 pawn moving forward instead of trading, limiting my early development.

While these seem like mostly theory focused, I would love if you tried to convey how should we think about chess as a game, what should I be considering before making a move? Is it just about memorising lines? Maybe it's just me but I tend to learn much better with teachers who teach mental framework for handling systems, a teach a man how to fish type of situation if you get what I mean.

Why not the pirc defense next? A great way to create imbalance for intermediate while not having to learn too much theory. The plans are simple, and it being a rare opening (while still being solid) increases the chance white will blunder. I would love for you to cover the pirc.
