Whew, I do not fit in that category of being 40-60 years old. What a relief it is to be 61 yrs old. You mentioned just not worrying & just relaxing. Yep older you get the more you will want to do that. I have to say at 20:40 of your video is where I would have liked to put up a camping chair & just sat with a beer & relax. Nothing more relaxing then sitting listening to running water in the wilderness relaxing. Looking forward to your video's in the future.

I’m 64, hiked Old Rag about a month ago. It was the most difficult hike of my life…regardless of age. Proud I did it, but won’t do it again. It was way more than I bargained for, but certainly a MUST for hikers, I imagine, but not necessarily for a novice old lady such as my self! Beautiful views!!

Oh cool! You should definitely go, it was otherworldly and there was a really fun audio tour about the local legends. I was there around St Patrick’s Day 2020, so I’m sure I missed out on a lot too! Masks weren’t a thing yet, but we were washing or sanitizing our hands a lot and avoiding crowds. I paid the big bucks for a hostel in Dublin, but all st Patrick’s day festivities were canceled. But this was at the end of my European excursion instead of the beginning, so I was lucky, all things considered

I have a fairly high fear of heights . As long as I can have a good handhold I usually OK. If you compare Old Rag to several river crossing on the AT. The river crossings on the AT I am referring to are those crossings where a temporary foot bridge made by dropping a split tree(flimsy) across a rushing stream with no rail. The fear is exacerbated by the thought that if I fell in I may never be found. The thing I found most frightening about Old Rag was the number of “rug rats” who were climbing around and through me. ( cub and Boy Scouts). Love your channel.

I've read from a forum that it's dangerous to hike this solo, but you did it. Is there a section of the trail that you think would be a concern for a solo hiker?
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Жыл бұрын
It’s been a while, but I cant remember any parts that made me the least bit nervous! Maybe when it was rainy and slick or super windy it would be dangerous, but it seems fine other than that. Plus, unless you go at like 5 am or the middle of winter, there will probably be plenty of other people around to help out if needed. I went at 7 am I think, and it was already seeming a little crowded to me!

We just did it on the 10th and I am 5'5". There were a couple sections I thought were harder because of my height. If I was just a bit taller, they definitely would be easier. My husband is 6'1" and there was one spot he even found a stretch. You need to be strong in your upper and lower body for this hike. Many times you're pulling yourself or hurling yourself up if you're on the shorter side. That's my two cents. We're experienced rock scramblers and hikers and in pretty good shape in our upper 40s for reference.

Old Rag is one of the best hikes in the Shenandoah National Park area. Some call it “Old Raggedy Man Mountain” due to a facial feature of one of the outcropping. You can see it at the 17:34 time mark.

Sometimes I obsess about rocks I find on the ground, especially under rocky overhangs.. It can seem like you're in some weird earthly purgatory if you think about it too much. Also, I get confused about the phrase "test your luck" hanging out there very long.. like, I wanna see a rock drop, but I don't wanna sleep through/under it. I have heard a tree drop, and can attest it's no myth.. but the boulders? Oh, the boulders
