Hike to the historic Mexican Canyon Trestle Trail | Cloudcroft, New Mexico

Located along U.S Highway 82 near Cloudcroft, New Mexico, the Mexican Canyon Trestle is an interesting, historic wooden trestle bridge, part of the Rails to Trails Conservancy. Built in 1899, this trestle bridge was on one of the networks of trails by the Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway (A&SM) to access timber in the forest, and later, to transport tourists to Cloudcroft. Nowadays, visitors can either view the Mexican Canyon Trestle from the overlook along U.S. Highway 82 or hike to it for a more intimate experience. Since we had already learned about this Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railway from our last hike to the Bridal Veil Falls, we were excited to check out both the overlook and hike. The hike to the Mexican Canyon Trestle was a little more challenging and exciting than we initially thought. It was also super cool to see the history of this area.

I often think about visiting Cloudcroft, especially during the Summer, when the weather report comes on and temps in my area are 100+ degrees & I see Cloudcroft sitting in the 70s. Seriously though, thank you both for sharing this adventure. Cloudcroft is a beautiful place, and the old railroad trestles are quite a sight. I really do hope to visit some day.

So glad that you enjoyed the video. Cloudcroft is such a cute little town. I wished we could have spent some time there as well, but we needed to get over to the Carlsbad Caverns. Hope you can get up to the trestles! It's a cool little hike. Have a great day!

hope to do this before I cannot, got stage 4 cancer, want to go to the canyon and too Yellowstone national park. is fall and winter better for the weather, probably be in electric wheel chair for me at these places

So sorry to hear about what you are going through! Hopefully you can get out there to check it out! Another spot you may want to visit is Petrified Forrest National Park. We did a couple videos there and they have some paved trails if you need to bring your wheelchair. Stay strong and Keep on fighting! We are rooting for you!💪
