McAfee Knob is one of the iconic places on the Appalachian Trail and arguably the most photographed. This hike has been on my bucket list for a long time. It has been on my to do list for a “complete” - which means a summit where I have made a contact with an amateur radio operator which was made two years ago with California radio amateur N6JFD on May 5, 2021 who “activated” this summit for Summits On The Air or SOTA. Now is my chance to also activate it - hence making a “complete” - both “chased” and activated.
It is 4 mile up and 4 miles down for a total of an 8 mile hike. After taking photos at the top I set up my radio and made contacts with radio amateurs from the west coast to the east coast. I even got Slovenia - a radio amateur there with the call sign S57S.
