Hiking alone 140 km across Madeira - PART 1

After years of dreaming about hiking Madeira I finally pulled the trigger. This tropical island is like no other place I have ever visited. Green, humid, full of water and... stairs. The first day gave me the taste of what was coming. Over 1000 meters of elevation gain in less than 5 km led me to Fanal, the mystical foggy plains, and the first rain. Starting after midday, I walked over 20 km seeing the first nice views and waterfalls. A perfect introduction to what was coming in the next days...
