Hiking And Camping On Acatenango Volcano!

After our warm-up volcano hike the previous day, the boys and I took a shuttle from the Tropicana hostel to the hiking trail head of the volcano Acatenango. This was a mostly straight-up extraneous hike to the base camp of the volcano summit, and took almost the entire day to reach. We stopped several times along the trail to rest and rehydrate, as well as for lunch, and celebrated finally making it to the top by having some noodles, hot chocolate, and roasted marshmallows before going to sleep in a freezing tent to prepare for the early morning volcano summit. Proud of our two Eagle Scouts with Palms , Roy & Dennis ll , their buddy Lieu as well . Big challenge coming from flat Fla. then climbing mts. All three son’s spent a great deal of time traveling all over the states sleeping in tents with family & with their scout buddies . Great stories & adventure never gets old . Forget your deodorant , not a problem , eating too many pork & beans could be a problem .

I couldnt sleep with all those people in one room, imagine the SNORINGGGGGG. Hope there were showers there.

Only problem I would have with a hiking trip is after walking a certain distance omg the BO must be overwhelmed from the sweat. I dont think I could sit next to anyone who smelt really bad.

Thank you so much for posting this detailed video! We are actually thinking of doing this hike in December. We are from FL, we don’t have mountains but we do hike very often in mountains. Not just this high. Did you have any altitude side effects? Any other tips? Please and thank you! ❤️

We were very fortunate to not have any major altitude problems, but when we summited the volcano the air was definitely thinner and we were winded quicker. It was challenging, but definitely an incredible experience. I felt like the pace we took was reasonable (and necessary to get to camp before sunset), and took a little conditioning to get used to. I’m interested what it would be like in December as far as temperatures and weather!

Did everyone bring deodarent with them. A few sprays under the arms would be necessary,
