Very Cool Video! I’ve hiked Heart Mountain with a class of 3rd graders! We even encountered grizzlies at the base with no incident (a couple of cop dads were packin’ for that very reason) but it made many nervous as you might imagine. Needless to say, we switched to an easier Spirit Mountain Hike in the years following. Haha.

@@michelleinchristalone2769 thanks! And Yes I’d agree with the flood theory from AIG, and I believe as the waters below opened it triggered numerous seismic and volcanic activity which matches with which we see here

I climbed Heart Mountain back in 1980. I had admired Heart Mountain from the sugar beet fields which I worked in since I was 13 years old and as we were migrating every summer we knew we were close to our destination when we could see Heart Mountain in the horizon. If you take a picture of Heart Mountain from a certain point it looks as if King Kong is laying down. At least that is what my dad would say…this area holds many happy memories for me because my family was whole, I have since then lost my parents and a brother. My oldest daughter was born in Powell, Wyoming and she will be 42 this year. I now live in Idaho and hope to visit Cody and Powell this coming summer. ❤

I grew up in cody and spent a lot of time accessing Heart Mountain to hunt mule deer. Access is now limited and foot is the only way . Enjoyed your video

Here’s an interesting fact about Heart Mountain. Heart Mountain is not a mountain at all! Heart Mountain is actually a gigantic pile of landslide debris. Scientists found out that Heart Mountain is not a true mountain, because the oldest rock lies near the summit, and the youngest rock is at the bottom of the hill. That’s the exact opposite of what you would expect to see in a true mountain.
