Mt. Haguro is one of three sacred mountains in the northern prefecture of Yamagata, Japan. We were hoping for a peaceful, winter hiking experience and this spot sure did deliver. With a five-story pagoda, towering cedar trees and an impressive shrine, the pilgrimage up Mt. Haguro was a beautiful experience.

Wasn't this hike just absolutely beautiful?! 🥺 There's so many amazing ones like this all over Japan! Should we try our hand at some tougher ones? Longer means more spiritual, right? .....right? 😆

Hi guys, words fail me for how beautiful this place is. Your camera work has always been amazing but some of the shots you got were really fantastic. I feel for you going out walking on the back of a cold, hopefully the fresh air and peace did you good and you’ve both fully recovered now. Again thank you for showing all these stunning places, especially this one and sharing your experiences with everyone. I really loved this video, another place I’m absolutely putting on the list of places to visit. Wishing you both safe travels and best wishes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

As always thank you so much for watching and your lovely comment! Honestly, when the area is just so magical, it doesn't take much to make it look so beautiful on screen. 😂 Glad to report that we're both fully recovered and fighting-fit now! Onto the next adventure! Best wishes to yourself as always 😊

Thanks for sharing! We were there at Mt Haguro last April - although it was spring that was still quite a few patches of snow around. A beautiful, peaceful place and the trees are so majestic. We also ate some delicious soba when we returned to the village near the carpark. Thanks again! Looking forward to your next vlog.

No doubt in my mind Mt haguro would've been just as beautiful at that time of the year as well! Oh man, we didn't look around for any restaurant afterwards. Finishing it off with some Soba would've been the perfect thing! Thank you so much for watching & commenting! 😊

Are you guys on your way to Morioka? I would love to show you around :) I just did that hike for new years. It’s so disappointing to not see much snow out here this year :(

Ah this was just a nice little weekend trip, unfortunately we're not heading any more north than this. Although we did come and hang out with the legendary GoNorth Japan in Morioka last year, and it was an amazing city & experience and we'd love to visit again! Oh! New years would've been such a perfect time to do this hike - I would imagine there would've been a decent amount of people doing it at that time? Yeah, totally feel you on the snow comment. It's made snowboarding and winter travel not as magical this season :( But looking forward to the NEXT winter season with a big list of "want to do's" is just another wonderful part of life in a country with 4 seasons!

Also, I wanna tell you guys; you both are legends and keep up the good work. You’re really selling me on moving back to central Honshu someday. Thanks for all your hard work :)

Waah thank you so much for such a lovely comment! Haha central Honshu is pretty nice, but Tohoku definitely beats it for peacefulness and less crowds. Yes we'll definitely let you know if we're up Iwate way!

We did it mid-Feb 😊 This past winter season there was less snow around. If you get a better season, there should be a bit more snow there in Feb.

I am planning to visit japan in early april,can you please guide me if it be safe to hike in gunma and noboribetsu?iv read that thoose places are inhabited by bears😢and they usually attack people...i am not able to make a decision wheather it be safe to go there or not
@RoyandAimee

Hi there! Yes there is a chance of encountering bears in the mountains. I wouldn’t say that stops anyone in Japan from hiking though. There was a lot of news about 2023 being the highest year so far for bear attacks but beyond forests, a lot of these attacks occurred near farmland and people’s homes.
