Having broken out of the Harz Mountains, I explore the Rabenlay in the Siebengebirge and the many great places near Bonn, such as the Skywalk and the Dornheckensee.
Among other things, I take the Nücker Felsenweg, which leads me into the area of the former Oberkassel quarries. Above the abandoned quarries, you finally reach the Rabenlay viewing platform, also known as Skywalk Rabenlay. The 24 square metre wooden structure juts out over the rock face and offers a breathtaking view of the Rhine Valley and Bonn. Eagle owls and falcons nest in the rock face below.
The hike continues past the Blauer See lake and the Dornheckensee lake, remnants of the quarry workings in the Ennert.
I recommend sturdy footwear, as the Nücker Felsenweg is quite steep and has a few stones. Overall, the hike is technically easy.
