Climbed Carrauntoohil for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Great video that shows for the casual climber like me that the 'Devils Ladder' should not be under estimated. It's a tough scramble up there. If it's any comfort, I'd similar views from the top - i.e none. Alas - but so pleased I did it and actually found getting down the ladder marginally harder that getting up it.

I would also recommend Nephin in Co.Mayo. Highest standalone mountain in Ireland. Done it back in September up and over.

I climbed this last year, the devils ladder certainly was a challenge for us as it had been raining heavily the day before so there was a lot of water! You have a new subscriber 🙂

Hi! 😊 I am planning to climb this Mountain next week for a travel vlog! I came across your video! Thank you for vlogging your experience and showing how it will be going up! Well done! All the best! 🍀👏

You gotta go back and climb it through o sheas gully. A way cooler route than the ladder.

Hey it could be worse - I spent a week climbing Kilimanjaro only to have much the same view from the top 😂😂
@WildForScotland7 жыл бұрын
But you made it to the top - go you! I gave up at 5,000m because I simply felt too terrible... My dad made it though and I'm soo proud of his accomplishment! Hiking is all about the process isn't it?
@WorldHeritageJourney7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It's a tough climb but the whole journey was fun too :)

Agreed! I was a bit sad I didn't reach the top, but I still got to spend all these days on the mountain and made incredible experiences - still worth it!

lol - That's exactly the same view I had on my 2 hikes up the Ben Nevis ;-) Carrauntoohill is still on my list. Happy Hiking

Oh no, that's such a shame! But I bet it still felt great getting to the top regardless. Maybe the third time is the charm :D

Nice video, Carrauntwohill view is not great anyway on a good day. Its blocked by most of the reeks. Recommend mangerton outside killarney if you're in Ireland again.

It's difficult to tell as the weather can change quickly in the mountains and it's hard to predict far in advance. I hiked this in October and stayed in short sleeves until I made it to the top of the Devil's Ladder. Then I put on a fleece and rain jacket as the weather got worse. I get really warm when I hike on steep slopes. Having enough layers to keep you warm when it's flat, you're resting or it's windy is important. Have a great trip!

Bummer that was cloudy at the top. Also seems like I missed you at TBEX Ireland as well. Did you get to hike in any other places in Ireland?
@WildForScotland7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had imagined it a bit differently when I planned the hike, but hey ;) Unfortunately I had to go home the day after this hike, so no other adventures in Ireland as of yet... Did you enjoy TBEX?
@NateMeetsWorld7 жыл бұрын
Yes I really enjoyed it! I'm thinking about going to the next TBEX Europe in Ostrava this summer. Maybe I will see you there.

I'm not sure I'll be going yet - I'm in my final year of a PhD and will probably have to reduce travel to visiting family and proper relaxing getaways :) Would be nice though - I haven't been to the Czech Republic in ages!
