So wonderful to see the tippy-top of Vancouver Island!! I visited in 2022 with my husband, taking 3 weeks to campervan all over. Cape Scott Provincial Park and the area around Port Hardy was our favorite area! So remote. So many bald eagles!!! And bears! We’re from the mid-Atlantic US so we felt like we had been transported somewhere truly magical! You make the hiking look easy, but I know for a fact that IT IS NOT. The mud scramble is for real!

17:10 “I wish you could smell the air…” That’s the theme of my life on North Vancouver Island! I can’t count how many times I have said that in my videos 😜 Film & photography are poor approximations of reality, but some masters can get quite close in capturing the moment, the light, the atmosphere. What I think no one will ever be able to capture are smells. When building an off grid life in the rain forest, you are constantly bombarded with smells of earth, rocks, flowers, wood… I wouldn’t change it for anything. I am really looking forward to your journey through this magical land! 👏👏👏

This is so cool! I didn't know there was a Vancouver Island Trail! I have been to Port Hardy, to meet a friend's sailboat for a coastal sailing trip, but never hiked into the interior. Love the Western Toads--banana slugs not so much --ha ha. Great that you got to see sea otters. Yes--the tidal issue and having to time it right or wait or go over a headland was always and issue on the Olympic Coastal Trail too. That, and mile after mile of negotiating seaweed -covered rocks. Very excited to watch this! That Port Hardy meal made so hungry!

I've hiked all over BC and the Alberta Rockies. Nothing compares to the difficulty of hiking on Vancouver Island. Cape Scott, the Westcoast Trail (WCT), Nootka Island etc. The weather can be awful not to mention the lack of trail maintenance, roots, mud, more mud, ladders and downed trees to navigate with heavy packs. The fact that you had decent weather on the North Coast weather is highly unusual. Thanks for taking us on your journey! Looking forward to your next segment.

This route should begin at shushartie bay. Neat Idea. My spouse wants to do another VI trail.

Hi Krysta. The trail looks gorgeous and you seem to have perfect weather. I enjoy your talks and honesty about mental health aspects and challenges as you make these journeys. I'm wondering what make/model the pink sweater you're wearing is. It looks cozy.

I got to hike Cape Scott with Brian a few years ago. I'm sure he told you about the whole ham we cooked and the ranger hut we got to stay in. Great times.

Nice to see you on the north coast trail. It wasn’t part of your video but the lake you hiked around on boardwalk, probably on day 3, used to host nesting red-throated loons. I’m interested to know if you saw them there?

How are you keeping your electronics charged up? It seems like there isn’t a lot of infrastructure for you to utilize for that. How much battery power are you carrying?
@somegalfromcan3 ай бұрын
I was wondering the same thing!
@melissarodgers7643 ай бұрын
Probably solar chargers.
@briannorwick3 ай бұрын
Great question! We both carry a battery pack to keep all of our camera gear and electronics charged. Krysta has a 15,000mAh battery pack and I carried a 20,000mAh pack. This allows us to easily handle a 6 day section. Krys has completed a 10 day section last year, stretching out her battery capacity to its limits. Cheers!

Surprised know one has commented on your footwear choice. I'm 8 min in on the video here and can't believe what your wearing on your feet. Wet feet,no ankle support etc. Crazy choice. 1st time seeing your channel so hope it goes alright for you two.
