Hiking The Mighty Montserrat Mountain Range - Catalonia In A Camper

As we head towards Barcelona in our campervan we couldn't help but stop for a few days near the Montserrat mountain range.
Whilst here we decided to embark on the epic hike that leads to Sant Jeroni, the highest peak on Montserrat. Standing at 1,236 meters (4,055 feet) above sea-level it's a full-days hike.
It was a tough walk, but well worth the effort. The views were incredible, it was a truly fantastic experience.
It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey and Santa Maria de Montserrat.

Goodness, that climb looks like hard work! But well worth it for lunch with a view! You were lucky with the weather judging by the clouds the next day. Anyway, another great video - it's great to follow your travels, take care!

Love the hike, one time I trekked when they were building the fernicular it ended with a mighty storm and the hole for the terminus started to fill with water. One digger driver had to be rescued into the bucket of another as his machine disappeared below the waves!

Hi! Thanks for your comment, we think dogs are okay to take on the hike as we saw a few locals walking theirs dogs on our way up. We can't say for sure how long it took exactly but it was around 2 hours. But we weren't exactly going quick, we were stopping to film and take pictures every now and then. So it should be more like and hour and a half. Thanks!

Crikey! That was a bit epic. Fabulous to be able to do this with you. Thankyou. Ummmmmm.... I dont know how far ahead of your videos you are, but I've recently watched a couple of vanlifer channels who have been robbed in Barcelona. Take care. Be safe. Pickpockets about so keep an ey out for thieves. (Apparently the police dont investigate thefts of under 400 euro so, for some, it's an easy way to make a living!)

Thanks Sue, was a truly epic hike. Just about recovered now :P we’re quite far ahead so have already visited Barcelona. We had heard a few horror stories ourselves so took as many precautions as we could. Fortunately, we didn’t have a single issue. We were vigilant but didn’t let it ruin our time there, we parked outside of the city in a motorhome park up etc for peace of mind. Thank you 😊

Scape of 1-10 on difficulty for the hike? Specifically the last two hours going up from the cable car/road area. Cheers

It was certainly trickier after the road area, but not too difficult. We met people of all ages and abilities on the way up. It's hard to judge the difficulty accurately... It's been a while since we did it, and we'd already walked up from the town! I'd go with a 6 or 7 though. It'll make you breathe heavy, but it's not an impossible climb. Hope that helps 😜

Thanks Gordon! I think we just generally underestimated just how long it would take. Especially the descent, would rather have not done it in the dark. But we had food and water and luckily a torch, so we didn’t do too bad!

Loved the walk. Got to admit when we try to follow the routes in Spain, they do at times seem to think we are as nimble as goats! Oh and we would do the same, (only cause I am mean) and walk down, risking life in the dark 🙄. Monkey_and_Vinnie.
