I love that you say it can't be descended after going up and down it a whole bunch of times for filming. But you're right to caution folks. That trail is no joke. Thank you for sharing your hike.
@AdamHoyt4 ай бұрын
Well it was technically possible but it was such a pain in the freaking butt. That It would not be one to ever tackle wet or for a casual descent. There were other parts you only saw through the go pro first person that I decided were not safe for me to descend for the camera.

I went thru Navy SERE training as a U.S. Force Recon Marine in the White Mountains of Vermont/New Hampshire in Oct. 27th thru Jan. 7th 1975/1976. I still remember one of our instructors telling us the White Mountains will make you dead PDQ in any season, but especially winter if you aren't focused and smart and determined to stay alive.

The Hunt trail on Katahdin is quite rugged too! I just hiked it with my daughter in early July. It was pretty brutal but a fun accomplishment. Every single time you round a corner and think you might have a break.. nope, another long steep rock scramble.. over and over and over 😓
@AdamHoytАй бұрын
That one has been on my list for a while now. Hope to hike it some day too!

I recently did the holt trail up Cardigan and even though I am a rock climber with outdoor experience I did have a few scary moments where I started going up a tricky part then suddenly just felt terrified as if the fear caught up to me. I would totally say that parts of this trail count as light (for rock climbing standards that is) climbing rather than hiking. Mt Cardigan is especially beautiful at the top and I love it when mountains have interesting trails and great views!

Like 5.6?
@whynot7585 Жыл бұрын
@@takl23 In bouldering grades i would say the hardest part is v0-v1 but theres also the fear of yknow dying… thats definitely makes it feel harder. If i had to do it in climbing grades i would say 5.5 cause idk if youve been outdoor climbing but it so much harder outside than inside. I did something outside without knowing the grade and I thought it might be like a 5.8/5.9. It was a 5.5/5.6 😑. This happens to me all the time so i say 5.4/5.5 for “outdoor” grade and 5.6 for “indoor” grade.

At least with this trail When facing up and doing the scrambles I was not scared it was when I knew I had to go back and get the camera, which i knew was not recommended that I had a reel hard time. My shorts sure got some holes that day lol.

My favorite day hike mountain in the 2000s. On the west side the aromas of the hemlock-spruce are spectacular. And so much open ledge around the top.

Adam, you’ve got the best videos for New Hampshire hikes getting out out these days. Thank you for sharing your hikes and giving some insight into New Hampshires best hikes. I’m at 18/T25 and 45/NH48 - just did the Castle Trail the other day up Jefferson - did you just put out that video recently as well?
@AdamHoytАй бұрын
I'm so glad that you enjoy the videos. It helps keep me motivated to make more of them! since they take both so much time to film and then edit together. But I also love how it inspires me to explore trails I wasn't exploring before! No I have only done castle Ravine. Castle trail is coming up soon for me! If you finished your 48 in the past 2 months a very belated congratulations!

The fact you had to angle the camera so far down to get a shot you could see the tripod leg is a testament to how steel that must be! 9:17

It was crazy! and that was after I tried my best so that you couldn't see it. But it was impossible. And then still the camera makes it look not steep at all LOLOLOLOL

Hiked this trail today, 10/8/23. The trail was streaming with water from yesterday and this morning's rain and that made the trail even more mesmerizing than it already is. I'm really glad that I hiked it today when it was somewhat wet and not completely dry because the rain made going down Manning trail extremely beautiful with all the small ponds formed along the trail not to mention the awe inspiring beautiful fall foliage.

Adam, what are you using for a knee brace??? I tore my PCL years ago and most of the time I'm fine, but every so often it gives out ... that unit might help me get back into downhill skiing to :)
@AdamHoyt Жыл бұрын
Its a custom leg brace that was prescribed for me as part of my acl recovery process. it was custom sized and molded to my leg and done through my insurance..

Hi Adam. Enjoyed this well-filmed and produced video. Some of those grades looked too steep for non-assisted ascending. Regardless, well done on the climb, thankful you had a better way to descend. I admit, at 70 - I'd have probably walked up along the sides of the rock slabs where there were small trees and bushes to hold onto. Thanks!
@AdamHoyt Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! oo they were extremely steep, mostly the one huge climb at the end and the big crack. It never looks as steep in the camera for some reason. Certainly was a doozy!
