This was lovely to enjoy and thank you. Spending time like this with your parents is such a privilege for all of you. For many years, I camped and hiked with my parents and sister as a kid, and in later years with them and my own children now, right up until we lost dad last year. Mum and dad had countless great outdoor travels all over Aust and your joyful adventure brought back many wonderful memories. So, thank you - beautifully filmed and produced! Do you guys ever stop smiling?? Watching you all makes us very happy. Cheers and thanks from Sydney - Dave and family

Hiked the overland in 2021. Great weather most days. Whiteout conditions on day 4, we attempted Mt. Ossa but turned back a few hundred meters from the summit, a solo hiker kept going and went missing for 6 hours. He returned with a near death experience and some pretty nasty injuries after getting disorientated and falling off the edge on the cliff onto rock and trees below. Other then that best experience of my life!!!

I am from Florida. This is the first time seeing this type of environment. I love your bright smile and excellent narration. It’s very important to keep good narration so many other people fail in this. Wonderful experience with your parents!

You would have many similar hikes in the US when it comes to weather and topography but once you experience the Tasmanian flora and fauna you have to admit, there is nothing on earth (including mainland Australia) quite like it. I'm in training for this walk, I hope to do it in October (Spring) this year with my sister for my 50th birthday. I tried it 20 years ago but had to turn back because I had leg pains (I'm an amputee). My wife and I went to Tasmania for our honeymoon and stayed. We have lived here for seventeen years.

It's so awesome that you got to share that experience with your parents and create beautiful memories to cherish. It was definitely hectic weather conditions for you all. That sunrise over the lake was like the icing on the cake for the end of your hike. It's the little things like that, that just make you sit back and feel recharged and alive. Cheers for sharing Laura.

You've produced a terrific account - I really enjoyed it. And wow, look at those flash huts - a far cry from the far more rudimentary accommodation I was familiar with as a guide in the park in the early 1980s. Wow. So much is still the same though - thank the gods. A very special place.

That's gorgeous! I remember doing the short hike to Cradle Mountain a few times when I lived in Tassie when I was around 6 and 10 years old. I'd love to go back and do this, don't know if I'd get 7 days to spare though.

Loved watching this. I started the track a day before you! The weather on those first few days was crazy - but I found it made it even more of an adventure. Best of luck on your travels.

I did this with the Hobart Botanical Gardens seed bank botanist. We collected seeds along the way for the seed bank. The most amazing walk I have ever done.

Awesome video Laura. I did the Overland track twice in the late 90's & early 2000's... at that time the construction of boardwalks had just commenced, targeting the worst section of track erosion & and waist deep holes in the button grass plains. Those new huts look stunning. Keep up the posts

Great job putting this video together. I walked the track in Dec last year in great weather, got lots of footage the first couple of days, but was too exhausted to keep up with videos the last few. Highly recommend the track and loved watching your video which brought back some amazing memories!

The OLT in May 2024 was character building. It is mentally and physically challenging. Although it is not a steep up hill walk like Hannel's spur it was a long week in some very cold, wet , snowy and muddy weather.

Just watched this and rediscovered your channel (I'd watched your Girraween video a long time ago when daydreaming of SEQ). Fantastic document of your adventure and what great luck to experience the Overland with snow like that in Summer! My wife and I did the trail in December 2016, and I have been planning to mark 10 years since than hike by tackling (and filming it) it Winter 2026! Seeing your video makes me even more inspired to do so!

Absolutely awesome video. So cool that you got to do this with your fit and enthusiastic parents. I'm glad you went to that summit and filmed the views up there incredible! Quick question for a newcomer like me. I'm after new boots and a tent. What brand boots are you 3 wearing and who's boots feared the best do you think? And was your one night stay in tent warm and comfortable would you recommend? Many thanks

I would agree the Ossa is a less technical climb than Cradle Mt. I've been up in thigh deep snow and 6 months later in mid to high 20's temperatures. Observed helicopters lifting the walls of Kia Ora hut in March 2022 from the summit of Ossa. A really good summary of the Overland track. I am scheduled to do a winter reverse trip - Lake St Clair to Cradle in a couple of weeks. Was thinking about pulling out but this video has re-kindled my enthusiasm. Just need the weather to play ball. BTW, it's Hartnett not Hartlett Falls 😀😀

We were there early summer December 2022 and the conditions were similar. We were only doing some walks around the Cradle Mountain area - not the Overland Track - but that’s the sort of weather you can get even in summer. I was surprised at the size and quality of some of the new huts. They weren’t like that years ago on my earlier visits !!
