I greatly appreciate a video that shows the wisdom of knowing when to say we've gone far enough. In spite of the weather, it looked like a nice day to be out and about in the White Mtns.

Yes the mountains will always still be there waiting for us. For it being September/October it was shocking how nice it was and that the only thing I was dealing with was fog/cloud, no rain or even wind or cold! Can't complain!

Try full leather hiking boot, waterproofed with "sno seal". Beans Cresta hikers ($250) but worth it. They will also protect. your angles on the scree. I admit they are a little "old school". Trekking poles will help leapfrog the stream crossings.

Just did this today, your video was a huge help. There was on spot on your stream crossing that I think was unnecessary, but the trail is such a mess that I totally see how that would have happened

O it was totally eerie and other worldly that day. Sometimes you want there to be views but days like today have their own charm for sure. The surprise view at the end was worth it! Actually you're wrong I spend 1/4 my time setting up much shots 1/4 my time hiking and 1/2 my time hiking back to get my camera LOLOL 😂😂😂

I hiked down that and yes that was worse than the Tripyramid south slide. Even wakes Ethan the castle trail. I saw only one person and yes the 10 Brook crossings

Started the 48 last month with Lincoln Lafayette to celebrate getting sober, and now this will be my first of the 25 after turning around last month on ice gulch. I gotta ask though, why do you wear lighter footwear instead of something waterproof like heavier boots?

Gotta give you props for heading up this trail despite some serious cloud cover. It shows you have a love for the mountain itself, all those beautiful greens of the mosses in the mist and the boreal forest. I feel like a lot of people emphasize the views, which are admittedly, pretty incredible. Glad you were rewarded with the surprise view at the end!

Couldn't agree more! Sometimes the journey is cooler. Never had a cloudy eerie foggy one on here yet and figured it would be a fun opportunity. since it was clear there would be no rain that day haha.

The same stream predicament happens when you are hiking The Twins too! Literally cross over the same river 3 times! Thankfully there is a herd path most people use, so you only have to cross once. In spite of it all, this trail looks like a blast! :)

Nice video. I remember that hike well! I carry a pair of crocs with the back strap for deeper stream crossings. Change them out with your hikers and switch back and forth as needed. Rarely have wet feet, except for the "I got this... " and then the slip and splash over the tops. Keep up the videos!

Absolutely stunning views and honesty it's refreshing to see the fog it made the experience watching so ominous! It's nice to see different weather..change of scenery! Maybe next time take the shoes off before entering the water ? Lol but it sure looked freezing 🥶😅 I don't blame you for not! Video was near perfect only downfall was not long enough! That was an amazing hike and good video footage. Glad I did not see the loose stones until the end because that could cause your mother to be concerned! So glad you got the view at the end of your day. I liked the idea about taking your shoes off before crossing the streams. Lol

NH 10/48 but 16 T25. If you have completed T16/25 then is it NH16/48? I'm confused 😕. Can you please explain this to me. I have zero idea. I watch you, Taylor and Kyle Hates Hiking so my knowledge is purely by osmosis but this one confuses me. Thanks again Adam.👍❤

No problem. I really should do a video about the NH hiking lists, actually taylor did one. But you can look in the video descriptions to get a quick blurb about the hiking lists covered in a particular video. But basically there are 48 mountains over 4000 ft tall in NH. You hike those you get credit for that list. Another list was created for scenic mountains under 4000 ft with amazing views from the summits. That's the 52. The T25 is about terrifying trails and is trail specific not mountain specific. In this video I completed the trail but as you saw I had to turn around before summiting so I earned only T25 not NH48 because I didn't summit. But some T25 trails are all on the same mountain. Mt Adams has like 7 of them or something, so as I complete them it will increase but the 48 wont since I already summited that mountain. But some of the T25 are on totally different mountains not on the NH48 list at all, some on the 52 and some on neither. So it could increase just the T25 list alone or sometimes multiple lists. Its all over the place haha. I hope that made things a tiny bit clearer.

Absolutely brilliant hike Adam. That Talus Rock Field, does it say how it was created? Is it from receding Glaciers or 100,000 of years of rock falls? Do you have wet and dry hiking shoes or did your feet stay moist all day? Those Fall (Autumn) colours were absolutely breathtaking and the mountain shined on you today with the reward of that majestic view. You put yourself through a lot today, thank you. One question, well two. Trekking Poles, what are your thoughts? Would they have helped and two, had there been recent rains as those streams were quite full? Again, many thanks for taking us along.

Glad you enjoyed it Chris. it seems That as talus field mostly forms from rocks falling off a higher area into a pile. In this case down the side of castle ravine. But these mountains have rock piles all over them even on the tops. So I'm sure there is some sort of glacial involvement from forever ago. No I don't have multiple shoes that I carry up the mountain. The shoes have not much too them and I have the wool socks so they dry out fast enough as you go, the issue was how often they kept getting wet over and over evetime they started to dry. Luckily it was not the coldest day. it was unseasonably warm and that helped me a bunch. Usually I try and rock hop but not possible that day with how high the water was. So I've never really used poles. Mostly because I've made it 30 years without them just fine and don't feel like I'm missing anything. if it helps other people then that is good for them. It is also harder with me carrying the camera to use them. I think the heavier your pack get's the more helpful they would be to steady you r center of gravity. Sometimes when I descend I think it might be helpful to have them. But climbing up the talus field certainly not. Even people I have seen using them in similar fields have packed them up and gone with the hands by that point haha. It had been raining the previous week and even the day before so the stream was probably quite high compared to the height of summer! But that's October in NH for ya.

@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling so I think the website claims water proof. I don’t tend to submerge it or do my hiking in rainy conditions. Your mileage may vary.

@@AdamHoyt I just wondered if it stood up to those downpours. I'm just thinking of what to buy and thinking no need to waste money on extras if it all stays dry. Would use a stuff sack too so should be OK. My hiking is still in my head at the moment so advice from you is welcome and appreciate. I am retired as from January so putting together a wish list before I buy.
