Hiking up the Skyline trail from the Paradise Visitor Center in Mt. Rainier National Park to near McClure Rock north of Panorama Point on June 16, 2023.
My plan was to do a short hike about a half mile from the visitor center to get some better views while my wife and daughter did some shopping, but the views kept getting better, so I kept on hiking until I got near McClure Rock above Panorama Point. Went back the same way.
This was an absolutely stunning hike and I highly recommend giving it a try sometime!
Directions to Trailhead:
Park at the Paradise Visitor Center, trail starts on the north side of the building
Distance to McClure Rock: around 5.5 miles (8.6km) round trip from the Paradise Visitor Center
Starting Elevation: 5,420 feet (1,652m)
McClure Rock: 7,385 feet (2,251m)
Elevation Gain: 1,965 feet (599m)
Difficulty: Moderate
Conditions:
Clear Sky and light winds
Temperature: around 60F (16C) felt warmer with the sun
Mostly snow covered trail (spikes would have been helpful)
Camera equipment used:
iPhone 11 Pro Max

Nice video, such a fun hike. Way more snow than when we were there lol. Someone we talked to mentioned the helicopters were bringing hiking supplies for the backpackers

Thanks! It's probably one of my favorite hikes that I've done, it really exceeded my expectations. Wish we would have had more time there. I missed out on climbing Mt St Helens due to some logistical issues, so this one kind of made up for that. Makes sense about the helicopter, it made several trips from the valley up to the Camp Muir area.

Yep, there was a marmot hanging out next to the trail, didn't even care that I was there. You should go out there and do some hiking, such a cool place. Wish we would have had more time there.
