Letter Ladies Martha, Dawn, Rena and Ilene have been told by Thompson Falls, MT locals that there is NO WAY they can get to the "TF".....but that does not stop the Letter Ladies from trying!
The "TF" in Thompson Falls, Montana is precariously perched on cliff, located on Flat Iron Ridge. And stories abound regarding HOW the letter is maintained, and WHAT the rival school in Plains, Montana does to the "TF" (apparently Plains students will turn the "TF" into a "P"!).
But Letter Ladies love a good challenge, and so they took a chance and hiked up to the "TF".
Because the Thompson Falls, MT "TF" is not on the Wikipedia list of Hillside Letters, research needed to be done to confirm if there really WAS even a letter to hike to. Letter Lady Marlene did call City Hall, and was told that the local high school students used climbing gear to get down to the "TF". Letter Ladies Dawn and Martha work with Matt, a Thompson Falls, MT native. And Matt assured Dawn and Martha that the "TF" did exist, but that there is no way to get to it without climbing down a very steep and treacherous cliff.
But the challenge was too good to resist!!!
The Letter Ladies were able to locate the "TF" on Google Maps. They saved the way points, and mapped their course.
The drive up National Forest Service Road 153 was easy enough. And via Google Maps, the Letter Ladies were able to chart their course up the backside of the ridge where the "TF" is located.
After weighing all of the options, it was decided that traversing up the ridge might be the easiest route (instead of climbing straight up the backside of the ridge). It is difficult to say which route might have been the best, but nonetheless, the Letter Ladies were able to make their way to the top of the ridge.....right ABOVE the "TF" letters!!!
NO, the "TF" could not be seen by the Letter Ladies....so close, yet so far! So it was time to try the DRONE!!! Rena is a champ at operating the drone. She was even able to bring the drone back (truly we are always expecting the drone to just jet off into the sunset, never to be seen again!).
Perched above the "TF", unable to actually touch the letters, all that was left to do was to enjoy an incredible view of the Clarkfork River and the Cabinet Mountains. On such a beautiful fall day, it was a joy to hike and enjoy the adventure with such fun ladies!
Thompson Falls, MT is a small town in north west Montana, located on the Clarkford River, and nestled in the Cabinet Mountains.
