This past March, after reading "Hiking With Nietzsche" by professor John Kaag, I traveled to the small village of Sils Maria in Switzerland where Nietzsche spent most of his summers in the 1880s. In Kaag's book (which I have read twice and recommend), he details how he visited the village of Sils Maria in his late teens and later as an adult with his wife and daughter. In addition to its fame for being the sometimes home of Friedrich Nietzsche, Sils Maria (and, specifically, the opulent Hotel Waldhaus) also served as the temporary residence of both Theodor Adorno and Hermann Hesse in later years. It was a special experience that I will never forget.
