Great honest informative review . Impressive bit of kit let down by 123 batteries. Not a fan of external power packs. Too much junk on the rifle just adds to the all up weight. I currently spot with thermal and shoot with 4K NV (ATN and WULF). Internal battery on the both NV's just never runs out so I can leave it on ready to go all night.

excellent review of a fantastic unit. love the Hik equipment. one downside is the battery life, whilst you can use a power pack and USB, I have found the majority of people are right handed and have the gun on your right shoulder. Overtime and stalking with gun on your shoulder you can end up damaging the USB connector and plug as it can bang into your back due to the USB connector being on the left hand side of the unit. I found this to be the case on other digital and thermal units. would be nice if the USB connection was in a better place to allow it to be plugged in with consideration to having the gun on your shoulder being carried whilst stalking. but that would be my only criticism . Great in depth informative review. Thanks Robin

That is a great point you’ve raised. I found the right angled leads help reduce the likely hood of knocking the cable. But you’re right. Having the port relocated to the rear or even simply on the right would be better.

Great review video Robin, and what an awesome unit! As a fellow (if only MUCH smaller scale) KZbinr I'm with you on all the minus points (battery type & lack of audio recording), plus for me as primarily an airgun hunter (non-FAC & FAC) -I really miss having a built-in LRF... but hey presto the HIKMICRO Panther is now available, that's one scope I'm gagging to test-out! Love the thoroughness of your review, we included loads of extra technical info in ours, but that's partly thanks to having NV/Thermal guru Bruce as a shooting buddy. :o) My only bugbear? When you zoom during the editing that crops-off the digi zoom you're shooting with (top-right), but otherwise- another awesome review, thank-you. Oh and Bruce tells me the HIKMICRO one-shot-zero firmware update is now out, and he's installed it - perfect! All the best, cheers. Russ

I went out with it again last night. Quick zero check. Two rounds through the same whole at 100 yards. It was a smidge high so just brought it down a tad. But it was bob on. Last night it was very damp and foggy. But I could still see animals, rabbits, deer etc at 5/600 yards.

Just watched this video on the thunder tq50. It looks very good. I am looking at buying one as they are available at a good price, especially now the thunder 2 has been launched. The only thing that concerns me is the cr123a batteries. Please could you tell me how long roughly they last on standby. Many thanks, Al
@TeamFoxer Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t simply bother as they’ll only Give you 2 to 3 hours tops. I’d run it off a small lightweight power bank. It’ll last all night then. But for the money the quality of image and distance is amazing.

@@TeamFoxer Thank Robin much appreciated! I might just stick with NV and put an Alpex on my rifle and upgrade my spotter instead. Cheers, Al

Robin a great scope but the no sound is a deal breaker for me, it only cost peanuts for a maker to put a mic on the unit, shame it would be complete with sound.

This unit was all three. You only need the end eye piece and rail to make it a dedicated scope.

Great review Robin 👍👍 Ive owned a Hik Thunder since mid March - I agree for the money image quality is one of the best! After a few attempts at high power rechargeables I too resorted to an old phone charger in a nite site pouch and I dont switch the scope off at all during the night out and never used half the power. Not sure if recent units have an update already for zero adjustment - as at 100 yards I've failed to get your accuracy across 3 different calibres with much ammo and hand warmers used 😆... hopefully an update is incoming for that and sound! Hope to see more footage from your unit very soon 👌👍

I’ve currently designed and produced a power unit with digital display ,it has 4x21700 lithium cells rated at 2800 mah giving 12amp hr it has picatinny female to mount under rifle,and I’ve added 2 picatinny male rails for mounting torches or IR ,it has 5 ports 3 different types for charging and 2x USB-A one is a quick charge and one is 2.4amp hr ,there’s a button to turn display on and off ,its 3d printed and very strong it’s not waterproof but would take a shower depending where you mount it ,the lads and I have tested them and they power all our sights for hours and fully rechargeable I currently have 3 different types one being a forestock grip but only rated at 1000mah powers most sights pard 007 etc as long as you have your battery in and makes the night last longer if interested message and can send pics I designed it as there are no designated packs for the guns that don’t rely on trying to mount them somewhere nice vids love LR but sadly not used since I left the army
