I think the reason EXO is less popular in the Western world than bts is because SM did not promote EXO to the Western world at all. EXO was the TOP of TOP IDOL in Korea and Asia until recently. I think many western fans knew and liked bts first. Hi guys! Well that clip of Suho giving an acceptance speech was just an example of Exo being humble in a way where he is acknowledging other nominees and commending them for their hard work and stages.. no one does that in an acceptance speech. That award show itself is an older show where Bts may have won in another category, I don't remember, but Exo has started winning award shows (and there's dozens of them) from 2013 on, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Male Group, Style, and many more...yes all Asian award shows, but winning straight after debut in 2012 is not the norm, Exo exploded into the scene very young. Bts debuted in 2013 but did not gain recognition until 2016-2017, after they promoted in the US and got their recognition with American awards. Exo never promoted in the US and continued to grow their popularity and fandom regardless. But Exo won awards up to last year, and they never had any bad blood between any other group, they win they win, why was that a problem to some back then? Like you said, it is toxic fans in both fandoms, that's all I can chalk it up to. We all support Bts, I'm more than proud and happy for them, because I love kpop, not just one group. That's the true sense of a music lover. Otherwise don't call yourself that. It's not the numbers or awards you love, it's the music, no matter what style, what language, what country, talent that you can easily fall in love with , and more so, enjoy, is everywhere. I love Exo and they continue on with whatever they can do before enlistment. And the love for Exo and the talent they exude is undeniable. They have been a household name in Korea and Asia, and to worldwide fans since 2012, been in Guinness World Records, been acknowledged by Forbes magazine, been to the Blue House (like White House), been the Nation's pick, have had meetups with President Moon, have met and shook hands with President Trump and Ivanka who is a fan (at Blue House) presented their CD to Trump and Ivanka (Chanyeol was visibly overtaken by Ivanka's beauty...😅) All these accolades and achievements Exo has started when they were young, but there were no fan wars back then. There wasn't even fandom NAMES at one point... so Exo had alot of love and still do, cant we love them all? Bts is a different style, but I love them too. And the DIFFERENCE is WHY I love them. Gotta have flavors, right? Both groups shine, let's let them shine...and keep kpop fun. Suho is humble, respectful, and a very good leader all these years. I appreciate the person he is.💜💙❤

Suho was actually supposed to debut with Shinee a senior idol group of Exo but due to a leg injury he had to wait and debut with Exo. He said in the beginning he felt at first uncomfortable because all of the people he trained with left to debut so he wasn’t as close to Exo members as he could have been. And he was the one that said he wanted to be CEO of SM (rumor of him making his own company after enlistment since the end of their contract is coming up but I don’t think it will happen) stupid Sm Entertainment

That award show was not for best leader (the best leader thing was just a poll). That was a big award of EXO as a group and you never see Idols mentioning other groups and respecting them even though they won the award. EXO is always like that, Chen even once said „Music is No competition“ ! The member who also plays piano which you forgot is Baekhyun. Chanyeol plays basically everything. Sehun doesn‘t play instruments but he wants to learn how to play the piano some day. For the other members, you will probably see in the rest of the guides. And i think the thing you remembered when it said that Suho wants to become Future Director of SM, is from the First introduction guide to exo. It was said there too that Suho want to become it.

Alot of newbie fans of Bts are only into them for the past couple years when they went to US. They only know Bts. They never knew Exo. Therefore will not acknowledge them as someone who has talent LIKE Bts. All I can say is I have been with Exo and Bts from their debuts, so I have albums from both groups, and many other groups.....but Exo IS NOT Bts.

Each group has some part of the fandom that is problematic... the bigger the fandom is, the more they usually are due to the proportionality. But this is why I consider myself a fan but don't get into the fandom activities/behavior that much - i.e., I don't let other fans pressure me into buying/streaming/voting if I don't want to. I stan because of the group and the music, not for socials. Some people make the fandom an important social network/identity group in their life and that leads to all sorts of troubles later on.

One of the most emotional acceptance speeches by Suho was right after Kris had left. The group was having a hard time dealing with that. So Suho accepted the award by himself so the members wouldn’t have to be on stage knowing their group was already losing someone. Then he had to sing the song they were be awarded for. He’s led the group through losing three members completely and one , Lay, who hasn’t been able to perform with the group, because of political shit between China and SK. But they communicate regularly. It seems the male groups get along well. In fact, members from 4(?) different groups, including Kai and Baekyun, have formed their own group Super M. They all always cheer even when another group wins.

Pleaseee read this, interesting fact: TAO (ex-member of EXO) he had filmed a variety show last year in France, and while filming, there were French girls staring at him (probably because he is Asian, and camera‘s are on him) They thought he was a Member of BTS. They were sure of it. Tao was so confused? How could he have been mixed up with someone from Bts and even said to staff, cut that part out. After the girls were gone we saw that Tao was really offended by the girls and even laughed at them for mistaking him as a Member of BTS (just because he‘s asian) Tao then said „When I was still a member of EXO, BTS wasn‘t even popular at all or didn‘t even exist..“ and now they act like BTS is the only Kpop group..

The idols themselves are friends . They even have videos of bts and exo being friends on KZbin. The fan wars start due to prideful ness. BTS fans want to believe that BTS are e best and no one will beat them. EXO fans think EXO is the best and that’s where the wars start. These are usually started by fans who are solo stans rather than multi stans. A solo Stan basically means they only support one group whether it’s a boy or girl group and will typically not listen to or support any other Kpop group

Some personal opinions: EXO was clearly higher than BTS several years ago. EXO took almost all the top awards without doubt. However, these years BTS becomes bigger. Therefore, EXO has competition on awards. Then the fans from two groups have some conflicts like "you do not deserve this award". Also, as what I saw, BTS fans are younger in average than other groups (since BTS becomes bigger recently), so it is more likely for them to be more offensive.

Suho' solo album is a must to react. Like you said, it's pretty different vibe (more like rock alternative/rock ballad).. Suho is the best Kpop leader 2020 (based on voting) and in reality, he really is a great&humble leader. Despite many awards and achievements EXO received, he always puts Kpop as a whole first. He also loves EXO-L so much that he always knows their feelings and actions (I think Suho monitors EXO-L as intensive as EXO-L monitors EXO)..

Regarding fan wars, some kpop fans are very sensitive regarding their idols, some bordering fanaticism, if I may say so. They only support their idols, and put down other idols. EXO and BTS are two of the top male kpop groups at the moment, so in a sense, they’re like rivals. It’s some fans’ immaturity that causes the wars, even if the idols themselves are very good friends.

You are right! A natural rivalry between them, but they respect each other and are friendly to each other. Some of them are friends. Kai is a friend of BTS's Jimin for example. But the BTS fandom is quite disrespectful about other artists, yes, in my opinion. So I have my own fandom where all the artists deserve respect because they work equally hard, they deserve love and support.

I should also say they go into the military for 1 year and 9 months. Suho gets out next year (Dec 2021), Xiumin is out in a couple of months (Dec 2020) and D.O (Jan 2021). EXO comeback next year, Suho is the only one not going to be there and that award speech wasnt for being a leader, in the background it says EXO won the award, all of them are standing next to him too and it was in 2016

As a long time fan of many and I do mean many groups, I can tell you that the Idols themselves are friends with each other, its the fandoms that cause alot of issues. I'm not going to say who started what or call out fandoms of groups I just wanted to say that it wasn't just one groups fans starting issues. And not all fans are rabid a**holes either there are so many decent fans in all the fandoms who embrace and support multiple groups. The girl's voice you heard is Jane Jang's. I think it's Chanyeol, Lay, Baekhyun, Suho, and Chen who all play piano. It's crazy that half the group can play instruments. All of the lead vocalists in EXO could be main vocalists in other groups. That's how strong EXO's vocals are. As far as I know, Suho is the only EXO member that says he wants to be the future CEO of SM. Oh, It's like scientifically proven that Suho's face is the perfect ratio. He'd have the most desirable face among Koreans. From what I remember on how fanwars started between EXO-L's and Army's was when there was voting going on for an award show and EXO-L's actually helped vote for BTS to win a big award and BTS did win it (it was their first time) but their fans started attacking EXO-L's on Twitter out of nowhere and it was really confusing, especially since at the time I was a fan of both groups. Since then there has been a lot of toxic fans making fun of EXO, lying to new fans about EXO and EXO-L's, stealing EXO-L's personal information, blocking EXO from being played on radios, you name it, it probably happened. Now, I will absolutely not say all EXO-L's are innocent. There are toxic fans in every fandom. There just those who show their ugly side more. It became too much for me to try to be a peacekeeper between the two fandoms that I just stopped being part of one of them. There are the rare times where the fandoms can get along, can do nice things for eachother. I love to see it. We need more of that please. Now let's talk about award shows. They are very biased against EXO. It's like they hate to see EXO win. There have been some times where award shows admitted to rigging the votes to result in EXO not to win awards that they qualified for and were ahead it voting by the time votings closed. You should check out the video called EXO vs MAMA 2017: What Went Wrong? From the channel SCARB. That award show was a whole disrespectful mess towards EXO and EXO-L's.

Starting last year, exo has been in semi hiatus (because 2 enlisted in military service). This year exo is left with 5 members (Chen is on temporary leave and Suho enlisted). It is understandable that they were not able to adequately promote their last album or go on a concert tour or work on another album. They are doing different activities this year. By early next year xiumin and d.o. will be back but Baekyun will be up for enlisting, then chanyeol and so on. The same thing will happen to Bts and they will also go on hiatus. Thats why they have been working overtime to release their albums while "the iron is hot". Before Exo, there was Super Junior and Big Bang. It would do well for rabid army fans to remember that this is the nature of kpop boybands and be respectful of those legends that came before BTS

So this is all just MY OPINION: From someone who was a big Kpop fan for years (Exo, Shinee, etc.) and recently started following them and some other Kpop groups again.....I do think a lot of Exo fans are resentful towards BTS and their fans because of many bts fans' feeling of superiority, especially the past couple years when BTS has blown up. For several years BTS was behind EXO in everything (sales, awards, accolades). Many people don't realize that from about 2013 to 2016/2017 EXO dominated EVERYTHING in the Kpop world, while BTS was second to Exo for a while. Once BTS gained a bigger fandom and recently swept award shows (as EXO stopped attending in 2018) I THINK there is almost a feeling of "oh we beat them!" from BTS fans towards EXO. Also, BTS fanbase are significantly younger and thus more immature in regards to appreciating other talent. Some Army's I've communicated with won't even watch EXO videos, so they have no idea how talented other groups (especially Exo) are. For them BTS rules all, and because they love them, so should everyone else. So although EXO fans can hit back at BTS fans and get hurt when such a talented group is disregarded as insignificant by such a massive fandom, I think most EXO-L's are mature enough to realize that they stan talent, not popularity. Honestly (for me) its pretty obvious what kpop group really dominates in vocals, dancing, video concepts and visuals. And it isn't the most popular group right now.

I ult bts and I love watching exo videos i have been watching all of their reactions to exo guide even though I have already seen them all and know all the members. I know a lot of bts fans who like watching exo as well but I do get where you are coming from bts fans don't really have the best reputation with other fandoms. Also alot of bts fans are in their 20's and up btw.

However i'm not trying to fight with exol-s because I like very much exo songs, i just want peace in both of fandoms! I always feel like i have to choose to be an army or exo-l and i don't want that! If 30+ have majority it literally means most of their fans are over 30. I’m not trying to fight with exo-ls either I am just stating a fact. You guys only react to the music and don‘t follow them much outside of it, so you probably don‘t know that EXO is a group with a mysterious image. They never do crazy promotions. NEVER. Especially NOT in the US. They did an English Interview in America ONCE ! 😂 SM rejects offers for them to come to American Variety shows, there‘s probably way more requests that SM is rejecting. Do you get what I want to say? Most people hate on EXO‘s company for treating them like this and not giving proper promotion because they could easily be bigger than BTS or BLACKPINK. But in my opinion I don‘t hate on SM for that, EXO is at the top, did you know they are the most awarded Kpop group of all time and even in fourth place of Artists in general who won most awards (they come right after Artists like Beyonce and MJ). And they did this with no crazy promotion, and proved it with talent. That‘s just crazy to me tbh, they are this big and considered RIVALS for BTS which is a group that overdoes promotions, ads, interviews, performances in America and what not... just recently there was a Video trending in my country of BTS making an Ad for Cars or something , making a whole song for it. You will never see EXO doing that. They mostly only do ads for cosmetic brands or Fashion brands. 😂 (in KOREA, not US). Also BTS snatches all the English Features from left to right, for example Halsey, Nicki Minaj, Lauv, Charlie XCX... EXO as a group has not a single feature with an Artist in general (except for a feature with someone from SM, who is KOREAN, in their debut EP). They once collaborated with a Korean Tv Show Host, but it was also just a SM Station (SM station songs never get promoted) If they made a feature with someone from America they wouldn‘t make a big deal out of it, release it as an SM Station and NOT as official Title track and they would pick an Artist which fits their vibe. Not Halsey, not Nicki Minaj (just because they are big). SM even rejected offers of features with the band Clean Bandit for EXO. A few other groups (BTS or Blackpink) might be more popular in the US or western countries. You guys probably only heard of BTS before you did reactions.. but please know that in Asian Countries EXO is at the top, their popularity in CHINA is unreal. (I mean EXO did their albums both in Korean and Chinese / they were devided into two groups EXO-K (korean) and EXO-M (mandarin) ) but China has no KZbin, so no views from their most big fanbase. Even in muslim countries EXO are no. 1 : for example in Indonesia and Turkey

Chanyeol, Baekhyun & Lay also can play piano but different is Lay & Chanyeol is self thaught, they have not took piano lesson and Lay even can't read music note. How cool was that. Chanyeol too. Both of them are self-thaught. They learn by listen to it. Even not really good like professional but still good. They totally genius. Baekhyun I remembered he took a piano lesson before debut

I am a fan of both groups even though I got into Exo, Shinee and Super Junior way before BTS because they were before BTS but I still am a fan of all Kpop groups like Got7, Seventeen and NCT, Infinite, ACE and many other groups and I don't know why fans hate other groups because they both do amazing and work hard and they like each other and are friendly, like I know BTS V is close with EXO Baekhyun
