He's less emo but more goth if that makes sense. Goths split between punk and metal in the 80s and recombined in when hardcore punk met metal hence metalcore. One of the results of this is emo and scene kids splitting from the goth kids. Emo came from hardcore punk and post hardcore and moved in both directions towards towards pop punk and metalcore on two ends though to mainstream observers this would the pop punk subculture side of things you'd see starting in the 90s. It grew and morphed until you hit your MCR's first album and Taking Back Sunday crowds where you can tell by listening to the lyrics its emo. Of course pop punk bands like Sum 41 get lumped in but arent emo(confessional presented insecurities and spitefulness set to a very melodic driven rock) but they are punk(rebel against norms). Emos also don't do mohawks. Your metalcore fans are different too though like punk fans it kind of blends together at the edges. And the scene kids are emos who like lots of colors and friendship or something. Elecronic pop punk and BMTH. The other fragmentation came with Twilight the book series and the vampire kids. When you mix a scene girl and a vampire kid you get Hayley Williams lead singer of Paramore. Okay I'm lying about the vampire kids that was a South Park thing but damn it if it wouldnt perfectly explain Hayley Williams. The scene part and her love of Twilight is true. Anyways Nik falls into the metalcore crowd that came up on Bullet for My Valentine which historically is goth-lite.

Reed has a very particular drumming technique when he does his fills, you KNOW it's him when you hear it on record. He uses those fills in pretty well 95% of all Revenge songs

The core hatred is probably due to the long lasting feud between punk and metal. Metal was too complex, closely related to old hippies, hair was too long, etc. Punk was too sloppy, too brash and stupid. Meanwhile, there was still overlap. Punks like hard rock and metal stuff liked Van Der Graff, early Maiden, some thrash stuff; metalheads liked Ramones, DKs, some grindcore stuff; and everyone seemed to hate new wave and hair metal (quite unfairly I might add, that stuff's amazing).
