@Goldenbane

His reasoning was sound, when you think about it. There was a stigma surrounding white players: slow, unatheletic, can't jump, ect. Bird had those stereotypes too, yet he was cooking every great black ball player out there. Yet teams would put a goofy white player on him? It was an insult!

I have a Larry Bird story ! My son and I were at a Pacers/Bulls playoff game about 5 rows behind the bench in Indy, and Larry was the coach. The Pacers weren't doing very well, and Larry had his elbows on his knees and was shaking his head. So I shouted, " HEY, LARRY, SUIT UP AND SHOW THEM HOW IT'S DONE," he did a side glace and smiled...made my day. !!! They also beat the Bulls that day too !!!!

You know that's what he was thinking, damn it if I was out there we wouldn't be losing like this😂 those with some great games with the bulls Larry had great teams as the Indiana Coach, I really wanted for him to get a championship as a coach. My favorite Larry Bird story is only about a year or two old. The Pacers were having a practice, and Larry Bird came to watch and was wearing a suit after leaving his office of Pacers GM. Larry, at age 60, grabs a basketball, walks down to the three-point line on the other side of the Court where the team is practicing, and gets ready to shoot. This actually has the entire team stopping practice to watch him, and all he does is hit 10 consecutive 3-point shots without a miss and then goes to sit back down in the bleachers. Every single jaw of every single player on the Pacers is on the floor. If Larry Bird were in his prime today, with the prevalence of the 3-point shot as it is today, he'd score 60 points a night easily

Here's why: *Bird 3-0 in playoffs vs Jordan, only player to do so *Bird only one of 3 players, and last to do so, to win League most Valuable Player 3 consecutive years *Bird has record for largest one season turnaround in sports history, taking a 20+ win Celtics team to a 61 win season his rookie year; what makes that so special is that the only difference between the 2 Celtics teams was addition of Bird that led to 61 wins

Don't huh? Well tell me how many white guys went on to be superstars in the nba like bird vs the amount of black guys It's no different than if we heard a name in hockey making non stop plays. Most if not all of us would think that person would be white or foreign

For a brief period of years in the mid 1980s, we had the following players all playing in the NBA on different teams at the same time: Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dr. J, Hakeem Olajuwon and Michael Jordan. Think about that for a minute.

People thought I was crazy, because I say Kevin Durant's is a lot like Bird. Sizes are close, but their playing style is similar. Bird would talk shit before 3pt contests, asking who's coming in second. And could pass like a point guard. Bird still should be top 5. There is a reason why the Bulls had to have Scottie Pippen to win in the East.
