Nah poland wasnt pushed always west. Their origins was around theire modern borders. West polish principalities however were settled by germans, while poland pushed against the rus towards east. So polands traditional border came into existince. Stalin however wanted to punish germany and gain east poland, so poland went west, forced by the udssr, thats why many german have polish surenames, cause they became german and then some hundreds years later they were forced to settle into modern germany. My surname for example is somewhat slavic and I honestly dont know any polish.
