It's an intermediate card trick in terms of "professional magic", but, just like on Penn and Teller, you can't teach charisma and Piff has always had so much of it.

@@unknownuser8454 I didn't watch past the third thing since I got bored, but the first is an obvious force, done poorly as you can see the card separated from the rest by his finger and he's shuffling through. The second he just loads the card into the can behind the case, thats pretty straightforward. The third, the dog is in the chair. None of this is even clever and I would rather watch more talented magicians on Fool Us.

What's great about the Judge Cuts round is that one of the performers before Piff, I don't remember his name, at 9:36 on the left, was a magician as well. That magician did the exact same trick that Piff did, he made a selected card appear in an impossible location. And he's good looking, he's great with magic, but he doesn't have much stage presence, he came off nervous, he doesn't have a persona or schtick the way that Piff does. So it really shows the contrast. Their magic was the same, but Piff's personality and humor got him the golden buzzer and the other guy went home. We don't remember his name. Piff excels with his persona, not his magic, not his looks, not even his dog, although that helps. Piff is a great character, and that is why we remember him years later.

I suppose we are more used to hearing that type of thing from British people, but I think there are Americans who could pull it off. That being said, he does play an American and is watched by Americans, so clearly there are a decent number of us who like dry humor. For his first trick, you can see a card he has palmed; the deck is stacked. The card face he palmed was cut into 4 squares and he just had to rub the king squares off and the 7 of spades is revealed. He's a good magician, he was just a little sloppy and was caught by the camera on the floor.

I just realized the trick on the Quarterfinals one. The trick is that there was no trick. The dog was in that box from beginning to end. It was lucky for him that Howie did not choose the one the dog was in because of the subtle hints. However, even if he decided to choose it, Piff would talk him out of choosing another. If not, he would do that trick where you have 4 suits of cards and eliminate each one by reasoning what you didn't choose. However, since he was lucky enough for howie to not choose the dog until the end, then he wouldn't have to resort to using such trick, therefore, the trick is that there was no trick.
