Having left the Uk many years ago and discovering this little gem today, I did not realise how well written, acter nor what huge comedic value this 'saga' had/has, it is brilliant in it's punchiness of life in the '70 and know that for sure, I was there. Thank You Johnny Cassettes.

This is so good it could be a stand-alone piece by itself. Before "Abigail's party" there was Hilda's party. The script, characters and acting is so good that you could watch it and understand the pathos, despair, heartbreak and hopes and dreams of the people in it without needing to watch any previous episodes. I haven't watched a current episode since finding these. After best sirloin you don't want scrag end do you?

Fantastic to see such an early seventies episode - thank you! Stan looks quite dapper here, I recall pat Phoenix saying in her autobiography that in his youth he had a look of Clark Gable, I can almost see it here! Hilda looks noticeably younger too - its such a wonderful, well rounded characterization even from the early days, Jean Alexander is a superb actress.

What is missing on current Coronation Street are the absolutely shitty interiors as seen here - dull dirty colours, hideous cheap furniture, ghastly curtain fabrics, stains, watermarks, drab but busy wallpaper. The Ogden’s house was especially awful. All part of the show’s charm.

Corrie's end credits were exceptionally slow in the 1970s...these took a full one and a half minutes...they're only about 10 seconds long now.
